Inspiring Conversations with Renee Washington of Resilience Wins Executive Coaching & Consulting LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Washington

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Like a lot of people, I followed the so-called playbook for success. I went to college, completed an internship, and worked my way up in local television news right after graduation. I moved to six cities and worked in seven newsrooms. It was a rollercoaster ride filled with hard work and determination. After 20 years of dedication and commitment, it finally happened—I landed my dream job as the Vice President of News at NBC4 Los Angeles.

But here’s where the story takes a turn. What started as an exhilarating opportunity soon spiraled into something quite different—a nightmare. From the throes of the Covid-19 pandemic to the intense scrutiny to the departure of one of my favorite bosses, it felt like everything was working against me. I held onto that role for dear life, jumping through hoop after hoop, until I finally had to ask myself – at what cost? I was completely exhausted, both physically and mentally. I realized that no job is worth sacrificing your overall well-being. After nearly four years, I quit. Leaving that position wasn’t an easy decision, but it was the best thing I could have done for myself.

Fast forward to today—almost two years later—and I’m proud to say that I’m now the owner of Resilience Wins Executive Coaching and Consulting LLC and a certified professional coach helping people enhance their professional lives.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been an incredible journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and growth.

While it might appear effortless, it hasn’t been easy. There have been moments of self-doubt and financial uncertainty. From returning to school and earning my coaching certification to launching a business as a first-time entrepreneur to releasing anything (and anyone) that doesn’t align with the new life I am creating for myself—I’ve experienced twists, turns, highs, and lows.

But each obstacle has ultimately reinforced my decision to redefine success. For me, success is no longer just about climbing the corporate ladder, achieving a specific title or material gains. I now prioritize authenticity and personal satisfaction over those conventional notions of success.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Resilience Wins Executive Coaching & Consulting LLC?

By covering these areas in our sessions, I aim to create a holistic environment for professional and personal growth. I offer individual and group coaching sessions.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the most game-changing lessons I’ve learned is not to take things personally. Yes, that’s right; it’s not always about you (or me)!

It’s a simple concept, but it can have a profound impact on our daily lives, especially in business and at work where we often find ourselves reading too much into someone’s actions and words or lack thereof. When a client or colleague doesn’t engage with you as they usually do or suddenly seems distant, it can feel like a personal slight. You start crafting narratives in your head, and before you know it, you’re in your feelings, leading to stress and frustration. I’m certainly guilty of this, and I know I’m not alone!

Now, instead of assuming it’s personal, I consider what might be going on in that person’s life—stress from deadlines, personal issues, or even just a busy day. Extending grace and compassion toward others can diffuse potential conflicts. This opens the door to a deeper level of understanding and connection. Remember that people are human and have their struggles.
