Inspiring Conversations with Raul Ramirez of Catch Wrestling Alliance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raul Ramirez.

Raul Ramirez

Hi Raul, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ever since I was a child, I was fascinated with martial arts. I started training as a teen. I would take several classes every week. In college, I had the opportunity to study martial arts abroad in different countries. After winning a couple national kickboxing championships, I wanted to focus on grappling.

After much research, I discovered Catch Wrestling, the wrestling style that influenced modern Olympic Wrestling, Pro Wrestling, and modern grappling. I ended up training and competing in the birthplace of the style, Wigan, England.

Since then, I created the Catch Wrestling Alliance, an organization that helps to preserve and promote this legendary wrestling art.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a bumpy road. The problems arise from people not understanding the difference between Catch Wrestling and other popular grappling styles. Many people also wonder if it is pro wrestling. Unlike predetermined pro wrestling, Catch Wrestling is very real.

The majority of the time is spent on educating people about the differences and the value of learning Catch Wrestling. Learning this style can greatly improve your success in grappling overall. It doesn’t matter if you are a No Gi Jiujitsu competitor, a Judo Competitor, or even a Freestyle Wrestler; cross-training in Catch Wrestling will improve your skills.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Catch Wrestling Alliance?
The Catch Wrestling Alliance is all about the teaching and promotion of the great grappling art of Catch Wrestling.

Authenticity sets us apart from other organizations. I trained with several legends in this style. Very few people have the level of experience and expertise that I attained. No one has produced the amount of successful Catch Wrestling competitors that I have as well.

We offer in-person training in Los Angeles. Online training is also available on our website. We have a very active YouTube channel where we explore all aspects of Catch Wrestling, including instructional videos, matches, and a podcast.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Even though there are several popular grappling styles, the Catch Wrestling Alliance does not try to make Catch Wrestling something it is not. We teach authentic Catch Wrestling. We’ve seen others trying to teach Jiujitsu but call it Catch Wrestling. We will never do that. If we discuss other grappling styles, we do so from an authentic Catch Wrestling perspective.

Our motto is “Keep Real Wrestling Alive.” We will never stray from our mission.
