Inspiring Conversations with Raul Barboza of Nova Bakery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raul Barboza.

Hi Raul, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Nova Bakery was created with a simple dream of sharing the delicious treats we grew up with in Venezuela. We’ve always wanted to welcome everyone into our culture with open arms, and we’re so grateful to be part of such an amazing community here in Long Beach. It means the world to us that people are loving our food, and we truly appreciate all the support we’ve received.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a small business is one of the biggest leaps of faith one can take. The journey has been far from easy, but seeing what we’ve built makes every challenge worth it. Like many small businesses, we’ve faced hurdles from rising costs to navigating a tough economy, but we’ve learned to adapt and push through. As a Latino-owned business, we’re especially proud to keep growing and thriving in the face of it all.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Nova Bakery is a Venezuelan restaurant serving up authentic flavors straight from our roots. As one of the few Venezuelan spots in the Long Beach and Los Angeles area, we’re proud to represent our culture and share it with such a vibrant, diverse community. Our best-sellers include classics like arepas, tequeños, cachapas, and so much more!

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Growing up with my abuela was honestly one of the best parts of my childhood. She was like my second mom since she lived with us, and her cooking was unbeatable. Every day after school, she’d have a little snack ready for me without fail, and her homemade meals were the best. Her love for cooking inspired me, and now I want to share those same recipes with the world so everyone can taste the flavors I grew up with.
