Today we’d like to introduce you to Randi Wilens
Hi Randi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a native of Los Angeles and a graduate of USC’s school of cinema with a degree in film production. After graduation, I worked for major feature film producers as an Executive Assistant and story editor. I then pivoted to managing directors and animators for all filmed content and began my ascent to executive producing and guest lecturing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The creative world is very unpredictable. You have to stay curious and know when and how to pivot. Know how to ride the wave and stay focused and passionate in your journey.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about RW Media?
I’m a Connector, Strategist, Manager, Executive producer, and Guest Lecturer.
I manage Directors, Animators, Artists and Photographers. I produce all filmed content from music videos, global tour/screen visuals, live concerts, branded content, music documentaries, features, promos, film title sequences, commercials, short films, art installations, etc. Recent clients include ADULT SWIM, HULU, DISNEY, NY TIMES, HOKA, FENTY, GUCCI, APPLE MUSIC, etc
Recent projects include: GLOBAL tour/screen visuals for TAYLOR SWIFT, LAURYN HILL, ZAYN, BAD BUNNY, BILLY IDOL, ANDERSON .PAAK, BLINK-182, STEVE AOKI, ODESZA, MARSHMELLO, TRAVIS SCOTT, LIL NAS X and SZA, music videos/visualizers/lyric videos for STEVE AOKI, – classic animated videos for T. BONE BURNETT, ELLA FITZGERALD, NINA SIMONE, LOUIS ARMSTRONG.
I am also curating Art Installations. Recent projects include motion art projected on the historic DANIELS AND FISHER CLOCKTOWER building in downtown Denver, Colorado. I have curated 12 so far by 12 different Artists/Animators…I live in West Hollywood and I am active on the West Hollywood Arts Council. I am currently working with the city to curate art installations on Sunset Blvd. billboards. In September I will be a guest speaker at the Crocker Museum in Sacramento where one of my brilliant Filmmakers/Photographers, Raúl Gonzo, has an exhibit titled “Color Madness.
I am currently Executive Producing a music video/short film for THE POLYPHONIC SPREE directed by Anthony Schepperd – a six minute visual experience which will be premiering at a Dallas Planetarium in October and then at various planetariums around the country…and recently produced a SCI-FI 3D visual FX short film directed by Anders Rostad titled “Brave New World” Anders directs CALL OF DUTY for Activision.
My advice to young animators and directors is to ‘just do it’! Create your own content — a music video, a spec commercial, an art piece. Don’t wait for things to happen: make them happen.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think art installations, global tour/screen visuals, and animation content are the next MTV. Films being screened in planetariums, museums, and billboards is the future. Venues like the Sphere in Las Vegas and Cosm in Los Angeles are a strong indication of upcoming visual mediums.
