Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Young.
Hi Peter, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
INTA Gems & Diamonds is an American rags-to-riches story in a lot of ways. My parents, Jerry and Connie Pheng Young, started their jewelry business in the 1970s when they came to America as refugees from Cambodia. With the determination, help from the US government, the church community, and countless friends who believed in our business and family, we have been able to grow our business to a multi-million dollar business. We’ve been honored to be the official crown jeweler for Miss California, USA. Some of our celebrity clients include Michael Phelps, Stevie Wonder and Prince. We’ve still remained a small family business at heart and truly try to help all of our clients with their jewelry needs.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle was for my parents Jerry and Connie coming to the country as new immigrants with no English language skills. Capital investment in the jewelry business starts very small and has to grow slowly. In addition, I think that all refugees that come from different country deal with PTSD which can affect everyday lives. One needs to deal with the mental health of yourself and your family when trying to juggle work, business and personal matters. I think with the pandemic, a lot of small businesses still need to deal with labor issues and supply problems. A lot has improved since 2020, but there still are issues we all deal with.

We are known for our sapphires and natural gemstones. We also help a lot of couples get engaged! We have helped thousands of clients get their own customized engagement rings at a great price. What’s next?
We plan on helping the next generation of clients. We work primarily on a referral basis. What we’ve noticed is that a younger generation is finding us from word of mouth via their friend’s social media posts. We want to continue to do good worth for years to come!
