Today we’d like to introduce you to Noam Dromi.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I want to begin with a silly anecdote. When I first meet someone, instead of asking, “What’s your story?” I begin with, “You were born, you came from the hospital, go!” I stole that line from a Season 2 episode of the show CSI. It’s a disarming way to get to know another person by engaging in slightly less pedantic small talk. So, with that in mind —
I was born in NY and spent the first 5 years of my life in Israel. My family moved to Los Angeles so my mom could get her PhD at USC, and although the plan was for us to return to Israel after a few years, circumstances kept us in LA permanently. My mom was a social worker. My dad was a journalist. Although they’re not with us anymore, the lessons they taught me about creativity, compassion, and entrepreneurship have shaped much of the personal and professional direction my life has taken.
In terms of how I got to where I am, I’ve embraced the beauty of not having a plan as my plan. My guiding principle is simple: to make cool stuff with interesting people who aren’t assholes. This has allowed me to thrive in environments of creativity and mutual respect. It’s a journey of embracing the unexpected.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
To state the obvious — life is an unpredictable journey. We all face our fair share of challenges—illness, economic downturns, and our ever-changing relevance in the marketplace, to name a few. So no, it has most certainly not been a smooth ride. But then again, the roughest roads often lead to the most memorable stories.
Embracing the necessity to constantly reinvent myself hasn’t just been a strategy; it’s a survival skill in today’s world. Every stumble and detour has been an opportunity to grow, to innovate, and to refine the person and the professional I want to be.
In embracing the unpredictability of life, I’ve found the strength to continuously evolve, shaping not just a career but a journey that’s as dynamic as the experiences that have led me here.
As you know, we’re big fans of Reboot Studios. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Reboot Studios is a creative platform that nurtures bold and transformative film, multimedia, and art projects through funding and support, focusing on stories through a Jewish lens. We’re becoming known for producing impactful works like “The Anne Frank Gift Shop,” by Mickey Rapkin, shortlisted for an Oscar, Jacob Kornbluth’s short documentary “We’ve Been Here Before: What the Punk Scene Can Teach Us About White Supremacy Today” and the critically acclaimed Broadway show “Alex Edelman: Just for Us” which recently premiered on HBO. We’re driven by the belief that art can educate, inspire, and spark social change. What sets us apart is our dedication to developing content that resonates deeply with both Jewish and wider audiences, leveraging a vast network of creatives and partners.
For us, it’s about much more than just entertainment; it’s about telling stories that matter, that challenge us, and that connect us across diverse backgrounds. We’re driven by a passion for innovative storytelling and a commitment to inclusivity, especially highlighting voices of Jews of Color. Our goal? To inspire, to entertain, and to create meaningful change. We’re proud of our role in fostering a new wave of Jewish storytelling, offering support from seed investment to distribution, aiming to inspire participation and dialogue across communities.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest piece of advice is that everyone should attend YouTube University. When I was a kid, if you wanted to learn a new skill you’d order Time Life books. Today, if there’s something you want to learn, from cooking to coding to composing, someone has uploaded an instructional video to YouTube FOR FREE. Ignore it at your peril.
