Today we’d like to introduce you to Ngozi Kim.
Hi Ngozi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My creative journey began in 2012 when I started my comedy brand GoziTV on YouTube. Since then my world of creativity continued to expand. The Pandemic was definitely the launching pad I never realized I needed. Quarantine allowed me to go within majorly. During this time, I questioned what was next for me in LALALAND. The seclusion of it all gave me a much clearer vision of who I am as a creative person. Now, let me pull out my tiny violin: I’ve never felt as though I fit in. Wherever “IN” is, I’ve always felt I didn’t quite belong. That was heightened when I relocated from Texas to Cali. A city like Los Angeles will really show you who you are & where you belong.
Creating a space in my own lane has always been my jam. Truth be told my ethnic background has led me to this way of being. I am the child of 2 Nigerian immigrants in America which has always left me feeling like a fly on the wall.
I’ve always felt like the fly that just watches & doesn’t quite know where to land. This hasn’t been a disadvantage by any means. Simply put, it made me who I am & allowed me to see life with a very open mind. This is important in any creative setting. I wanted to create a space where people could simply show up as themselves & bring their ideas to life. NOHO Production Oasis is a physical manifestation of that.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is the biggest learning curve I have ever experienced in my life. I’m an extremely creative person & that has been my only focus for over a decade now. The world of starting a business is still creative in my opinion, however, there are many twists & turns that I’ve had to buckle up for. One challenge has been funding. They say it takes money to make money. Though I disagree with some things, I 100% agree when it comes to funding a business. I have been funding the space out of my own pocket since opening. Those days are slowly but surely coming to an end. This year we launched our fundraiser on Gofundme.com with a huge goal of $100,000! It may be challenging to garner that amount but definitely not impossible.
Building a supportive community has also been a challenge. I’m very confident that the more authentically I show up to this business the more the community will grow. Team building has also presented itself as a challenge. Many want to join your party when you’re already “popping” and not in the startup phase. But they also say “If you build it they will come” This “They” person is very wise! Furthermore, becoming a better leader has honestly been a huge obstacle. To lead a company you must be able to lead yourself adequately. Becoming a more disciplined person is helping me become a better leader for NOHO Production Oasis!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
NOHO Production Oasis was established in August of 2021, but perhaps it was silently brewing for years unbeknownst to us. We show bits of the behind-the-scenes process on our YouTube channel (search NOHO Production Oasis)
Our mission:
WE AIM TO PROVIDE CREATIVES WITH A RELAXED ENVIRONMENT TO BRING THEIR IDEAS TO LIFE BY USING THE CREATIVE COMMUNITY TO INSPIRE & PRODUCE PODCASTS, PHOTOSHOOTS, LIVE MUSIC, DIGITAL CONTENT, NETWORKING EVENTS, WORKSHOPS, & MORE.
We want people to know that NOHO Production Oasis was established with creatives in mind. Truly knowing the value of providing a space to create has been a complete blessing. Acting on this knowledge has been an even bigger win!
Numerous things happen at this space & we’d like to share:
We are constantly producing a variety of engaging monthly events. Some of our past events include SPEED DATING FOR AWKWARD MILLENNIALS, CREATIVES OF NOHO MIXER, SPEED DATING FOR DOG PARENTS, 3rd THURSDAYS COMEDY SHOW, & more!
Providing a relaxed workspace is something that we value as well. Wednesdays are our co-working days & our community can purchase COWORK WEDNESDAY day passes that include a salad bar at noon, a fully stocked snack bar, coffee, indoor/outdoor seating areas, free street parking, & high-speed wifi.
Our space is extremely dog friendly & there is a mini dog park on the premises for our fur friends! Want to book a studio time or host an event? We are on Peerspace.com & Giggster -the links to those are always in the bio of our Instagram.
We are truly excited to grow our business, a creative community, & inspire those who chose to bring their ideas to life. A few simple ways to support our space are to connect with us on social media, share our updates with those who may be interested, & donate if you so chose.
What do you think about luck?
I found this location on Craigslist in late 2017, luckily it turned out to be a safe & reliable space. I do believe that “LUCK” is not really real unless you truly recognize it.
Let me explain: You may get a lucky chance & not act on it & essentially block your blessing. I think many of us fall into some sort of LUCK often but do not act on it due to fear.
Truth be told, I do tend to get lucky often it could be that all my astrological placements are in SAGITTARIUS which is ruled by Jupiter…the planet of LUCK! (If you believe in astrology of course) or that every single time a strike of luck appears I take it & run with it at full speed! ‘Fortune favors the bold’ they say! So I take full advantage of any strike of LUCK that comes my way!
