Inspiring Conversations with Nathan Lape of Nathan Lape Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Lape.

Hi Nathan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Nathan Lape and I am 18 years old currently a senior at Villa Park High School in Villa Park, CA. As a student at Villa Park High School, I film events at school, work with students, arrange club events for Red Cross Club, and many more. At Villa Park I enjoy to participate in my filming class. That can either be filming small events, big events, sports, or whatever it is I find a way to make it so fun for me. Other than filming, I love to go out, drive my car, hang out with friends, and even try new things that life takes me. With my outside world, I also am an adventurer. I am a person that will follow on what life has for me, or do things with friends I have never done before. When it comes to filming at school or for big leagues, I started very very small. It all started in freshman year when my old teacher gave me a camera and I quickly became the school photographer. I was taking photos, and videos at every event at school. With that background, people quickly found out who I was, and I enjoyed knowing that people know me and I didn’t even know them. Fast forward to now with filming, I have done for community colleges, private colleges, and I have even participated in the Old Towne Film Festival. Getting this far as an 18 year old still in high school is awesome for me. No mater what life hits me with, I just breeze through it, and just think of the good. At this point, I am extremely grateful for everything that has been given to me at school, or at home. Wherever it is, I am so grateful to be able to have the opportunities in life that I have right now.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In all, it’s been a mixed road. Ever since I started my career it’s been filled with bumps that have been patched with me. Starting the very first time I did filming I had someone leak my entire address all around my schools campus. That made me so insecure to even be at my own home, and made me not want to go outside. Growing up was hard, I’d say. Dealing with bullies, harassment, etc; it’s been a wild ride. Things started to get better in beginning of senior year, but then I had someone egg my house, and that was not a fun week to have. Just a couple days ago, I got my first college decision back from Chapman University for their Film and TV Production major. The moment I got the text saying to check my portal I went crazy thinking I would get in. However, that was not the case. When I opened my letter, it told me I was denied admission to the university. That took a big stump onto me, but I didn’t let it define who I am. I used that rejection letter as a redirection letter. Knowing that I got rejected from my dream college was troubling, but I used it to an advantage. Again, right now, I am proud for everything I have done, even though so many challenges have came to me.

We’ve been impressed with Nathan Lape Productions, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It all started freshman year of when I opened up my business. It first used to be called Nathan Lape Photography as I did photography the entire time, but as my filming area started to take off, I changed it to Nathan Lape Productions.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Advice I would say is don’t take everything for granted. Things in life do not come to you, it needs to be earned. You might struggle during your time of whatever you are doing, but that’s the fun of life. It keeps on rolling even if their are mistakes.
