Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia & Mark Pedersen.
Hi Mia & Mark, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are Mia & Mark, brother and sister who immigrated in 2009 from Denmark to follow our American dream, to live in sunny California. We left a rainy and cold country behind along with a very difficult childhood as we were only young kids when our dear mom passed away and we later lost contact to our father.
We originally moved to California with a danish franchise that we were a part of for almost 12 years. But in 2020, during the troubled time of a crazy pandemic, The Franchise was facing some serious challenges and we decided it was time to pursue another dream of starting our very own brand, and to be in 100% control of everything surrounding our business. That’s how MOO MOO MIA was born. It was the best decision we ever made.
MOO MOO MIA is built upon our combined twenty years of ice cream-making experience. With a commitment to inclusiveness and community, We also serve vegan and lactose-free flavors as well as participating in local charities and causes. Our mission is to offer the best ice cream and sorbet in the most responsible way. We love to be creative and our flavors range between Ferrero Rocher, Matcha Lavender, Campfire S’mores, Pumpkin Spice Caramel and stable favorites like Oreos N Cream. We change our seasonal flavors every month!
We are two very different profiles with different personalities and different skills, but we have the same eye for details and taste for quality. We are best friends and also each other’s hardest critics. We often here people say “I could never own a business with my sibling” but because our strength and weaknesses are so different, it works very well for us.
We have build a strong business thanks to the amazing communities we are so lucky to be a part off, and the loyal customers who have stayed with us through every season. We are growing and currently looking for the next two locations.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Owning a business is never a smooth road and we have definitely faced our share of challenges. But we always manage to find the learning curve and positive experience in any obstacle we go through. We always believe the best is ahead and turn any challenges into experience.
As you know, we’re big fans of MOO MOO MIA. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We believe we have an exceptional product where everything is made from scratch in our own local manufacturing kitchen. We are known for our flavors, a chocolate is not “just” a chocolate at our shops, but a very special alkalized imported dutch cacao. Our Vanilla is 100% real Madagascar Vanilla Bean. Our flavors are what make people come back and tell their friends to go try it too. Word by Mouth is the strongest advertising any business can get and we believe this is what keeps our business involving and growing.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
We learned that no matter how well you are doing, nothing is guaranteed. Everything can change overnight.
