Today we’d like to introduce you to Matan Bodek.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Israel, and I couldn’t have asked for better parents. They were supportive, loving, and gave me and my two brothers a childhood full of laughter and togetherness. I wasn’t the kid who thrived in math or science, but I was endlessly curious. I loved taking things apart just to figure out how they worked. That curiosity led me to teach myself coding from a YouTube channel, which landed me my first job as a software developer.
I enjoyed the challenge, but I quickly realized my real strength was on the business side, organizing, leading, and bringing ideas to life. That path led me into project management and eventually to senior product management, where I had the opportunity to drive vision and strategy for consumer-facing products.
In 2014, I pressed pause on corporate life and took a coast-to-coast road trip across the United States. Exploring the national parks out west was unforgettable, but the trip gave me something even greater, it led me to Los Angeles, where I met my wife. She’s the most incredible person I know.
We fell in love quickly, got married, and built a life together in LA. Neither of us had family here, so holidays that I grew up celebrating with big noisy gatherings now felt quiet. But we stayed connected, I talked with my parents and brothers every single day, sometimes two or three times, and those calls reminded me that no matter the distance, family is always close.
When our first daughter was born during COVID, it was both challenging and a blessing. No family could fly in, and our parents didn’t meet her for nine months. Yet that time gave me something priceless, uninterrupted days with my newborn. Our second daughter was born in 2024, and now both of my girls are the absolute light of my life.
While building my career in product management, I spent nearly a decade helping friends with home remodeling projects in my free time. I applied my skills in project management, vendor coordination, and budgeting, and I realized I was slowly building the foundation for something bigger. I wasn’t just learning how to run remodeling projects, I was learning how to deliver results that made people truly happy in their homes.
Life gave me a push when a corporate reorganization impacted my role. Instead of jumping back into the same cycle, I asked myself what’s next. Just as I had once pivoted from developer to product management, I decided to pivot again. At the same time, the job market was shifting, and finding stable, long-term roles was becoming more and more difficult. I felt frustrated, but also deeply motivated.
For years, I had carried this dream of building something of my own, something that would allow me not only to provide for my family but to create real freedom. Freedom to decide my own path, to have flexibility, and most importantly, to be there for the people I love. My parents are getting older, and I never wanted to look back with regret that I wasn’t able to spend enough time with them or give them back even a fraction of the care and love they gave me when I was growing up. Being able to fly back to Israel when they need me, without asking permission from an employer, became a major driving force in my decision.
That’s how Modern Build Home Remodeling was born, not just from a career change, but from a desire to live with purpose, to take care of my family, and to build a business rooted in values that truly matter.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business wasn’t easy. I knew from the beginning that I wanted it to be different, and that meant doing almost everything myself.
I personally designed the website to reflect who we are, modern, warm, professional, and family-oriented. I obsessed over every detail, from the colors and layout to the text and SEO.
But I didn’t stop there. I also developed the website from the ground up and built applications for our representatives to track jobs, create invoices, generate estimates, and even provide clients with realistic renderings, allowing them to envision their new space before it came to life. On top of that, I created everything else the business needed, business cards, magnets, printing materials, advertising, and more.
It was a huge challenge to wear so many hats, but it also gave me complete control to build something authentic and true to my vision. Those early days required resilience, patience, and a lot of late nights, but every struggle also made me prouder of what Modern Build was becoming.

Stay true to your values and don’t be afraid to pivot when life pushes you in a new direction. Every skill and experience you pick up along the way will eventually serve you, even if it doesn’t make sense in the moment. I never imagined that coding from a YouTube tutorial, managing corporate products, and helping friends remodel their homes would all come together to form the foundation of my business. But they did.
If you’re just starting out, embrace the learning curve, be patient with yourself, and remember that building something meaningful takes time. Most importantly, focus on people, your clients, your family, your team. At the end of the day, relationships are what make any business thrive.
