Inspiring Conversations with Maritza C. Alonzo of Peaches Gear

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maritza C. Alonzo.

Hi Maritza, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am the owner and founder of Peaches Gear (peachesgear.com). We are a small company based in Los Angeles, CA. Being a mom is one of the biggest blessings in my life. Some can relate and understand that losing weight could be a bit challenging. Following the birth of my son, I struggled with the weight I gained during my pregnancy and like a lot of new moms, leggings became my go-to wardrobe choice. The perfect pair of leggings for any occasion, though, was something I constantly shopped for. Unable to find a company I was satisfied with led me to create a company that provides affordable and cute gym wear. Not only cute workout clothes but it won’t break the bank. Confidence is something we like to be part of in many of our customers. If that fashionable workout set is going to help them crush their workout, we are glad to be part of their journey.

Remember, LIFE HAPPENS!

Cheers to our gifts that keep on giving.

We Ap-peach-iate-you!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being business owners we have learned to go through the ups and downs by thinking how can we make this better? We always think of the solution, not the problem. The good days make up for the bad ones and we are grateful for both. Baby steps have taken us a long way. Being humble and kind to everyone was a big door opener for us. At first, it was a bit hard due to now knowing where to start but we quickly learned that if you want to be successful in your business, you have to do things that scare you. I was going to originally sell online only, but my partner Ozz had a great idea to try outdoor markets and that’s how we started doing “pop ups”.

Our first sale in person was interesting, we had no idea how to do it. A lot of it was trial and error. My brother and sister-in-law always are great hands to us. It’s a family-owned business. We came to the conclusion that selling in person was a great idea and started Talking to gym owners and going to outdoor markets and wellness events. Social media helped us also and our brand ambassadors reaching out to pop-up events was a big help to us. Many gyms helped us in growing our brand and our customers. I am a big believer that if I don’t like the product, I won’t sell it. ” if I wouldn’t wear that, I am not selling it” I care about quality and how my customers feel in their outfits. Giving people a product that is good and affordable and can help you reach your goal is something we look forward to! we are not just a brand; we are a push for your workouts! If you feel great, you will do great! I want to thank my life partner Ozz, my brother and my sister-in-law and everyone that has supported me through this process and all the gyms that have invited me to their locations and have welcomed me and Nutrishop for helping us out also!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was an adventurous child who loved to color, draw and make clothes for my Barbie Dolls. Living in a third-world country was much different (“barbie” items did not fit my barbies due to not being original). My aunts would send me Barbies from the U.S. on Christmas. I always looked forward to them and making clothes out of socks was one of the things I enjoyed doing the most. Around twelve years old I moved to another country with my stranged aunt, I moved to Los Angeles born in Guatemala but consider raised in U.S.A.  My aunt taught me how to work hard and always try your best. NEVER GIVE UP and always TRY! I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for my family. I started my legal career after High School and I got my Paralegal certification while working at a printing company.

I started working at the City Attorney’s Office. I left my job in February 2022 due to being diagnosed with Long Haul COVID and it was difficult to perform my day-to-day job, I resigned. Now I work in my brand with the help of my family and partner I’ve been able to accomplish many things this year. I’ve had to stay positive and continue to go forward. Now what I always look forward is seeing people wearing the brand that I am building and the confidence and comfort they wear. We have a New project coming soon! make sure to check on our social media for more info! My sweat my tears and my joy go into this and I am glad to make a difference. I start each day with gratitude!
