Inspiring Conversations with Mariam Petrosyan of Mariams Flowers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariam Petrosyan.

Mariam Petrosyan

Hi Mariam, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Mariam Petrosyan, and my journey in the United States began in 1990 with a simple dream: to provide a good life for my family. With my husband and daughter by my side, we navigated through various jobs and experiences, quickly growing into a family of five. Despite the language barrier and the challenges of being new immigrants, we were determined to create a comfortable life for our children. In 2001, fueled by faith and determination, I took a leap of faith and opened Mariam’s Flowers, a decision that would define the next chapter of our lives. Managing a business single-handedly at 29, amidst the chaos of school drop-offs, predawn flower market runs, and evening rushes, was no easy feat. Yet, fueled by the desire to provide for my family, I persisted. After two years of relentless effort, our business began to flourish, and today, 25 years later, Mariam’s Flowers stands as a pillar in our community. Over the years, we’ve celebrated countless milestones with our customers, from engagements to weddings, from welcoming babies to becoming grandparents. Our shop has become synonymous with long-stemmed rose bouquets, offered in thirteen vibrant colors, as well as exquisite vase and hat box arrangements. Through it all, our commitment to our customers remains unwavering, to always provide fresh and affordable flowers; they are not just customers but cherished members of our extended family. As we look back on our journey, we are grateful for the opportunity to have served our community and touched the lives of thousands with the beauty of flowers.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In the beginning, Mariam’s Flowers faced its share of challenges. As newcomers to the U.S., opening a business in an unfamiliar location was daunting. However, I was determined not to give up. With no prior experience, I taught myself everything about flower care, arrangement, and running the shop. Juggling the responsibilities of a new business alongside family commitments was tough, but I persevered. Despite the initial fears, we found our footing, and today, Mariam’s Flowers stands strong, a testament to hard work and dedication.

We’ve been impressed with Mariams Flowers, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m Mariam Petrosyan, an entrepreneur and professional floral designer with 25 years of experience in the industry. My Flower Shop, Mariam’s Flowers, specializes in long-stem rose bouquets and vase arrangements. What truly fulfills me is the joy my flower arrangements bring to my customers. What distinguishes me is my deep knowledge and continuous investment in the field. Learning from the best and consistently investing in my expertise allows me to deliver top-notch quality flowers and designs to my community.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up in Russia, my parents owned a large flower field when I was just nine years old. I developed a keen interest in various forms of handicrafts from a young age, learning to work with wood, crochet, and yarn. Additionally, I attended Armenia’s Cultural Center, where I honed my skills in creating art. Upon immigrating to America at the age of 18, I utilized these childhood-learned skills to handcraft chocolates for wedding favors. It was this experience that initially sparked my interest in the flower industry.
