Pilosity Electrolysis & Skincare Studio was founded in Pasadena by Kat Pilosity’s resident electrologist. Her decision was driven by a deeply personal understanding of how unwanted hair can profoundly impact one’s sense of self. Having faced her own struggles with hirsutism and hormonal dysregulation, she intimately understands the frustration and shame these conditions can bring. As a licensed and highly experienced electrologist, Kat has witnessed firsthand the emotional challenges clients face. For her, this work is more than a profession—it’s a calling to empower individuals to liberate themselves from unwanted hair, enabling them to feel at ease, confident, and truly comfortable in their own skin.
Electrolysis remains a timeless, precise, and permanent solution—often the only effective option for small, delicate areas where laser treatments fall short. She also serves as a trusted occupational consultant for the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology, providing expertise in electrology and aesthetics, and belongs to the Southern California Society of Cosmetic Chemists.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. Like many small businesses, Pilosity faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. We made the difficult decision to stay open, as much of a struggle as it was, in order to continue being here for our clients and to ensure we could come out on the other side. We remained hopeful that our studio would still be standing post-COVID. By adhering to strict sanitation, sterilization, and mask protocols, we prioritized the safety of both clients and staff. Thanks to our strong patronage and the incredible support of our clients—which we return tenfold—we were able to continue serving our community and emerge stronger than ever.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of Kat’s favorite childhood memories is going with her mother and sister to her weekly electrolysis appointments. She remembers sitting quietly, watching a woman named Bella hover over her mother’s face for an hour, expertly removing unwanted hair. Even at a young age, she was completely fascinated. Kat could not take her eyes off her precision and focus, and was struck by how much of a difference she could make—not just in appearance, but in her mother’s confidence and sense of self. That memory left a lasting impression on her and planted the seed for her own passion: the ability to help others feel empowered and confident through the art and skill of permanent hair removal and skincare.
