Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Carstairs.
Hi Julie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey has been anything but linear. I spent years exploring various industries, consulting on brand awareness tactics in finance, property investment, the beauty sector, and the events and hospitality industry. Throughout it all, I had a natural knack for social media, building brand awareness, and gaining exposure through various channels. I often helped my friends, particularly my best friend, an actress on NBC’s “Chicago Fire.” I always felt the pressure to pick a lane until I realized that being creative means you don’t have to. Originally from Canada, I moved to LA to pursue a certificate in marketing at UCLA. After graduating, I launched my creative agency, initially called Agency OGD. After a challenging life, I rebranded it to ON BRAND Creative (@onbrndcreative). That rebranding was like giving new life to an art piece. Now, I’ve never felt more passionate or connected to my work. Building this brand from love and passion has been incredibly fulfilling, and I want to inspire others to create from the same place within themselves.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Starting a brand and working with clients can be incredibly challenging, mainly when relying solely on yourself. Successes and failures are both on you. I’ve encountered people who didn’t have good intentions and took advantage of me, which caused me to lose myself. It’s tough to bounce back when you’re the only one to rely on. Rebranding was a move of empowerment for me, rebuilding my confidence after numerous setbacks. It was about trusting myself and the people around me again. Since then, I’ve seen a significant change in who I am, my business, and my accomplishments.
As you know, we’re big fans of On Brand Creative Agency. What can you tell our readers who might not be as familiar with the brand?
On Brand Creative Agency, formerly known as Agency OGD, specializes in social media management, creative direction, campaign development, web development, and business consultations and process implementation. We’ve helped many brands, particularly in the fitness industry, increase their exposure and client base by addressing problems their target audience might need to know. Our goal is to ensure these brands are seen as relatable and authentic. A recent partnership with an events company and Hope for the Day, a charity supporting mental health and suicide prevention, is something I’m incredibly proud of. This cause is very close to my heart. I am consulting on the business and brand awareness side of things, and our goal is to continuously raise awareness and funds for mental health through various activations like art sales, auctions, and fundraising events, creating a supportive community for those affected.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and can you share any important lessons or epiphanies with us?
The pandemic has taught me that life can change instantly and is really about what you make of it. It’s short and full of variables, uncertainties, and relationships that evolve. The ultimate goal is to pursue your dreams and make yourself happy. Never give up on your heart’s desires because it’s possible for everyone. You can’t rely on others or jobs to fulfill you; you must do that for yourself.
