Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Ruiz.
Hi Jose, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We started from humble beginnings, our Dad has been the driving force that has kept us going. My father immigrated to this country in the late 1970s where he worked every job in the hospitality industry from busboy to manager, he gave us the guidance we needed. Our father’s beginning as a business owner dates back to 1989 where he became franchisee of a well-known breakfast franchisee group. This is where I gained my knowledge at the age of 8 whereas a family business learned the ropes of this industry. I was never dedicated to school and more inclined to the work ethic I grew into at a young age.
The authenticity we have been striving for decades learned from generations in the restaurant business, will be found in each and every location you visit. Whether it’s our very first location back in 2014 —Long Beach— to one of our largest stores in Placentia CA. We currently have 7 locations in socal and opening 2-3 more locations this year.
Oh boy, do we know what it takes for that first bite. Each plate has been made from scratch that comes from our hearts with love. Love is what makes our restaurants work so well.
Today, you’ll find that we have ventured into the bakery business as well. My Panecito. These freshly baked mini-cakes are sold in-house. Whether it’s a seasonal pie or a fan favorite like Chocolate Fudge cake. To top it off, you’ll find a Mexican bread known as the Concha only at My Panecito locations*.
These are the reasons why we continue to produce dishes and items that are completely authentic and have a real original twist that only comes from our family. Like our slogan: American Cuisine With A Touch Of Mexican Flavor.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Opening your own business is very risky. Not have a secure check on the table due to fluctuations in your operations or things happening that are out of your control is a risk taken when becoming a business owner. COVID was a huge learning lesson from many of us. We have been blessed to survive this pandemic and not have to close any locations. COVID actually made me step it up a notch and find more opportunities that were not being utilized prior to.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our slogan is: Traditional American Diner With a touch of Mexican flavor.
Having a Mexican background, being Mexican / American we have brought to our concept a fusion of many items like churro crepes, dulce de leche pancake to mazapán shake. Also serving traditional Mexican items like menudo and one of our specialties Asada Chilaquiles. While also serving great American favorites dishes as well. The Mexican twist comes from authentic family recipes that have been part of my household for decades.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
