Inspiring Conversations with Omar Rivera of Way Out

Today we’d like to introduce you to Omar Rivera.

Hi Jessica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Most people know me as shotbythefinest.

I’ve always seen my journey in life as something I constantly evolve from. From the moment of capturing my first portrait to leading a film production, I have always become wiser and more knowledgeable. The world of my art started as a form of expression that allowed me to display certain ideas I couldn’t get out any other way.

I grew up all over Los Angeles and as a kid, it felt like the world was bigger than the cities I was raised in. I never felt comfortable in the surroundings I was placed in. I understood from a young age that there’s a lot more to be around and explore that could benefit your mind and spirit rather than suppressing it. This turned into me figuring out what my true interests were.

I unknowingly was surrounded by creative spirits my whole life. In everyday life, there are notions that people do without thought and it becomes these wonderful moments you’ll carry with you. My Grandpa and Grandma were creative in finding ways to build a life in a new country. My mother was creative in finding ways to raise me (trust me, I was a complicated child). Everyone I’ve met in this journey is creative in their own unique ways and it’s all energy that I absorbed to shape who I am today.

I knew that these moments had a reason to be captured. They defined me.

That’s when I decided I was going to use a camera to save these memories that otherwise would have been forgotten. From that moment on, I went everywhere with a camera. The power to save a once-in-a-lifetime moment is a beautiful power. I started to see the world differently, people, buildings, colors, lights, and more, it all just felt new and refreshing. Everything had meaning.

Fast forward and this passion became something that benefits my mind and spirit and changed my life.

I’ve taken photos I love and made video projects I love.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve never felt that my path in this creative space has been a smooth road. The struggles included are almost minuscule due to the fact that I now am in a greater position as far as my knowledge and extended abilities in my creations. I’ve experienced an extensive amount of problems that only a written biography could break down. I’m at a point now where I only focus on the positive outcomes and leave the negativity behind. If we never had those situations occur early on, it’d be difficult to handle them later down the line. There’s always room to improve as well as execute better outcomes.

If I had any advice to give to anyone reading it would be to find your passion in this world and follow it. You can make it happen for yourself if you’re willing to go through a lot of difficult moments. Everything will try to stop you but you’ll make it through and you’ll finally be able to see why it was the right decision for you.
