Inspiring Conversations with Jennifer King of ICME Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer King.

Hi Jennifer, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started with a dream and turned into a vision.

In 2014 I was living in Atlanta, Georgia and at the time putting my vision to the test. I loved planning, creating safe spaces to remember experiences, moments, and people. After discussing with my older brother my dream, he asked me if I could sum up in one phrase what did I like about event planning what would it be? I told him, “Creating memories that last a lifetime!” Then that is when I created my business name! ICME Events (I create memories that last a lifetime). Once I created my name, I started building it up. Following this, I started planning my friend’s parties and doing small events. As my business started building up, I started planning bigger signature events. In 2018 I official executed my first three signature events and my client list increased. One of my signature events that I’m very proud of is an annual conference called Ready, Set, GROW an Entrepreneur and Business Conference. This conference has a panel of 6-7 entrepreneurs/ business owners giving major gems about different topics. I would also have 8-10 small business vendors from the surrounding areas to help them brand their products and services. The Ready Set Grow conference is now in its third year in two states (Alabama and Georgia). I’ve had it at Hotel Indigo, The E-Complex and The Admiral Hotel. My sponsorship list has included major companies such as IHeartMedia, SUAVV Magazine, Solomon Lawrence Clothing and more. Outside of these events, I’ve planned Atl Homicide Season 2 premiere party for Angelo Diaz, poetry events, sip &paints, birthdays, block parties, socials and conferences. When the pandemic hit, I had to pivot and expand my company services. Now, my company provides event planning, content creation, web design, marketing, and branding. I am so excited about what the future holds. I have learned so much through losses and grew through successes. God is incredibly good, and I know the best is yet to come!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles were finding my niche of what type of events I would and would not do. Learning how to trust that those I hire, or contract will do their best and always represent my company in the best light. Revenue. Due to event planning not being a “need” and simply an extra added luxury, I had to figure out how to create that “need” for people to book me.

We’ve been impressed with ICME Events, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When booking my company to plan an event or provide a service, you should expect that WOW factor from the beginning to the end. Furthermore, when individuals mention an ICME Event, I want the feedback to include an experience that was well organized, a total vibe and a memory that will last a lifetime. What sets me apart from other event companies is the execution of every detail of their event being created, their vision being expanded, and the tier-one customer service being provided. ICME Events offers event planning, web design, content creation, marketing and branding.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I loveeee to write poetry and listen to Nina Simone laying in the middle of my floor, lol. She is my favorite artist. Music is my therapeutic release.
