Inspiring Conversations with Jazmin Culver of The Suckle Center & The Suckle Center Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmin Culver.

Hi Jazmin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The Suckle Center is a maternal wellness brand based in Los Angeles,California, founded by Jazmin M. Culver, a certified lactation consultant, doula and 2x exclusive and extended breastfeeding mother.
My journey began not as a business plan, but as a maternal awakening. After painful breastfeeding complications with her second child and a dismissive consultation from her healthcare provider, she discovered critical techniques through a culturally competent peer—and found success. The experience illuminated a painful truth: too many Black mothers were being dismissed, underserved, or overwhelmed by a system never built with them in mind.
My professional background—in psychology, sales, WIC, Black Infant Health, and customer service—uniquely positioned her to build something different. The Suckle Center emerged not only as her calling but as a spiritual assignment. I launched the business while unemployed, cohabiting with family, and raising two small children.Every milestone since has been bathed in prayer, fasted over, and fueled by purpose.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all — it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Raising children while trying to figure out life and purpose at the same time has been one of my greatest challenges. Throughout the journey of building The Suckle Center, I was just shy of one year postpartum and still breastfeeding myself. In the mist of that I’ve experienced seasons of unemployment, returning to school while working, and even cohabiting with family for over two years as a family of four. There were times when our family structure was on the verge of breaking, but it was in that very season that my faith began to take root.

That journey led me to give my life to Christ, get baptized, find a church home, and later marry my children’s father. Even with that foundation, life didn’t suddenly get easier — we faced moves, slow business seasons with unsold product stacked at my great-grandmother’s house, eviction notices, and what felt like an endless mountain of debt. And so much more that’s a story for another day.

But through every challenge, God was shaping my character, allowing humility, surrendering and relatability to take space in my heart and refining my purpose. I wouldn’t change any of it, because it all deepened my faith, strengthened my family, and reminded me that The Suckle Center was never just my idea — it was God’s assignment.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Suckle Center is a maternal wellness and breastfeeding support company dedicated to restoring confidence, cultural knowledge, and accessibility in the lactation journey—especially for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) mothers and birthing people. We specialize in evidence-based lactation care, postpartum support, and a curated line of premium, stylish, and practical lactation products that help mothers turn boardrooms, cars, and community spaces into safe places to nourish their babies with liquid gold—while still securing the bag.

Our vision is to become the go-to brand for modern, ambitious mothers who refuse to choose between career and caregiving. With every product and service, we’re helping women bring home the bread and feed their babies with confidence.

Too many mothers—particularly Black women—face preventable challenges in breastfeeding because of misinformation, limited culturally relevant care, and the high cost of quality equipment. Mainstream brands often ignore the emotional, spiritual, and cultural components of lactation, leaving mothers unsupported during one of the most sacred times of their lives. The Suckle Center bridges that gap.

Our products and services are created by a mother who has lived the journey and is professionally certified to guide others through it. Each product has been tried, tested, and loved during my own second breastfeeding journey—while working and mothering in real time.

I personally breastfed both my children—19 months and 2 years—while navigating job loss, cohabitating, and rebuilding my life. My story mirrors the very women I now serve. That lived experience is reflected in every product, every message, and every act of care we offer. This isn’t a niche add-on—it’s the foundation of who we are.

Every major decision at The Suckle Center is rooted in faith. We don’t leave God out of anything. That spiritual grounding shows up in how we care—with gentleness, hope, and purpose. Every customer receives a follow-up. Every product comes with education. Every order can open the door to a support group, doula service, or lactation consult.

The Suckle Center operates both as a business and a foundation—two entities working hand in hand. The for-profit side provides high-quality goods and services; the nonprofit side focuses on education, technology access, and community-building partnerships.

We have so many proud moments! GOD has truly showed up and showed out for TSC!! Some of our proudest brand moments are supplying 50 mothers across 10 organizations in Los Angeles County’s 2nd District with our Travel Combo Bags—creating real impact where it’s needed most. Another proud milestone is the continued success of our in-home lactation visits, where we see transformation happen up close—families restored, mothers reassured, and babies thriving. Lastly, the community events we’ve been able to cultivate for not just the families we serve but the professionals we serve alongside. It has been a true honor to be able to shed love, light and resources.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest advice is to stay connected and don’t try to do it alone. I always encourage new entrepreneurs to join our Patreon community or attend our bi-monthly business mixers. We created these spaces to help people of color build thriving, sustainable businesses and to connect families with inspiration, mentorship, and even employment opportunities within our network.

Every journey looks different, but one thing I’ve learned is that you should never be afraid to ask for help. No one is truly self-made—we all need community, prayer, and accountability to grow.

And above all, take the leap of faith. You don’t have to have it all figured out before you start. God honors obedience over perfection. The moment you decide to just jump off the porch, you’ll see how He meets you with provision, people, and purpose right where you are.
