Hi James, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
KDOC Construction began when founder James Kennedy recognized a persistent gap in high-end coastal construction: the most visually exposed and structurally vulnerable part of a home — the deck — was often built by several different trades with no unified responsibility.
The results were predictable:
• Premature waterproofing failure
• Railing systems that compromised structure
• Costly reconstruction on homes designed to last
James believed that this part of the home deserved the same level of detail as custom interiors, engineered glazing, and landscape architecture. So he built KDOC around a single, integrated methodology — one team, one standard, one warranty.
From that foundation, KDOC has become a trusted partner for:

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Certainly not a smooth road but the most consistent challenge is balancing opportunities with resources. Increase marketing/opportunities to keep the crew efficient or absorb a higher labor cost and laying off guys. Then there’s the other side, having plenty of contracts, not enough guys and begin missing out on new jobs because we are two months out. Making the decision to expand or scale back and hedging the outcome is a consistent struggle.
