Inspiring Conversations with Irakli Khizanishvili of Proslit Tile & Stone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Irakli Khizanishvili

Hi Irakli, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Proslit Tile & Stone may be a new name in the industry, established in 2020, but it is rooted in over 30 years of craftsmanship, experience, and passion. The company was founded on the expertise of my father, a master in tile and stone installation, who started as a humble tile installer and eventually expanded his skills to include countertop stone fabrication and installation. His journey is one of dedication and mastery, built from the ground up.

Our story began when my father migrated to the United States from a third-world country, driven by a desire to support his family and create a better life. Though his expertise grew over decades, he always remained focused on the work itself, never taking the opportunity to scale his business. His true passion lay in his craft—laying tile and fabricating stone with precision and care. Over the years, he perfected his techniques, always striving to make his work more efficient and seamless.

As his children, my brother and I grew up watching our father’s dedication. I started working alongside him during high school summers, learning the trade from the ground up as a helper on his job sites. Later, as I pursued my education, my brother took on the role of assisting my father. Together, we decided to take the next step: combining my father’s unparalleled craftsmanship with a new vision for the future, and thus Proslit Tile & Stone was born.

Our mission at Proslit is simple: to replicate and build upon the expertise our father has developed over his 30-plus years in the industry. We’re not just another tile and stone company; we’re carrying forward a legacy of craftsmanship and attention to detail, something that is increasingly hard to find in today’s world. We are passionate about training our team to uphold the same high standards and efficient processes that my father developed over decades of hands-on work.

One of the challenges we face, like many in the trades, is the shortage of skilled labor. Today, fewer people are entering the trades, but we’re committed to changing that. Through our training programs, we aim to pass on my father’s methods and craftsmanship to the next generation of installers. We want to show people that this is not just a job—it’s an art that demands precision, creativity, and a deep understanding of the materials.

We also understand the importance of evolving with the times. As technology advances, so do the tools and techniques used in tile and stone installation. At Proslit, we are committed to integrating the latest technology into our work to ensure that we remain at the cutting edge of efficiency and quality. Whether working with builders, designers, or homeowners, our goal is always the same: to provide exceptional service and deliver stunning, durable results that exceed expectations.

Our family’s story is one of passion, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of perfection. Proslit Tile & Stone isn’t just about installing tile or fabricating stone—it’s about honoring our father’s legacy and sharing his passion for the craft with the community. We are excited to continue growing, adapting, and bringing that same level of care and craftsmanship to every project we take on.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting Proslit Tile & Stone has certainly been a rewarding journey, but it hasn’t been without its challenges. One of the first hurdles we faced was understanding the market in Los Angeles. It took us time and effort to conduct thorough market research and determine where we fit in such a competitive industry. We had to dive deep into the business side of things to understand not only the demand for tile and stone work but also how we could differentiate ourselves from the competition.

Even now, one of our ongoing challenges is finding the right contractors, designers, and architects who truly understand and value the quality and craftsmanship we bring to tile and stone installation. Often, the level of care and precision we offer is overlooked or underappreciated, and it’s a constant effort to align with partners who share our standards.

However, we see every challenge as an opportunity for growth. Whether it’s aligning with the right people or navigating day-to-day operational hurdles, we view these problems as chances to improve and adapt. We’ve worked hard to build processes that allow us to pivot quickly when faced with obstacles. By documenting everything, from our workflows to lessons learned, we ensure that we are constantly refining our approach. This mindset has been crucial for us, especially as the business grows and new opportunities arise.

Though the road hasn’t been entirely smooth, these experiences have helped us become more resilient, adaptable, and focused on continuous improvement.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
While I don’t have a formal mentor, I’ve learned a lot through networking and building relationships with other professionals in the industry. One of the best ways to grow is by surrounding yourself with other contractors and tradespeople. By understanding the challenges they face and working together to find solutions, you gain valuable insights that help you grow your own business. Networking within the trades has been key for us, whether it’s through industry events, local contractor meetups, or simply being active in the community.

A big part of networking is being genuinely curious about others’ experiences and being open to sharing your own. We’ve found that building relationships with people who understand the unique demands of the tile and stone industry has been incredibly beneficial. It’s a give-and-take—offering advice and support when you can and being willing to learn from others when they have different perspectives or expertise.

Also, don’t underestimate the power of collaboration. Working with designers, architects, and other contractors has not only helped us gain new business but also learn from their experiences. These collaborations often lead to long-term professional relationships that are just as valuable as having a mentor.

For anyone looking to network, I’d recommend starting with local trade associations, industry-specific conferences, or even social media groups where you can engage with like-minded professionals. The key is to stay open to learning from everyone around you.
