Today we’d like to introduce you to Indya “Icy” Wright.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been a scholar and multi-passionate creative my entire life. I grew up taking dance, vocal and was admitted into special programs like The Johns Hopkins Center For Talented Youth (Drama & Creative Writing) as well as youth programs with NASA & The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. I found so much catharsis in creativity but yet ended up in conservative professions. I was one of the youngest Relationship Banker’s on Capitol Hill in Washington DC and then a Deputy Clerk at the Superior Court. I wasn’t happy so I quit abruptly with no money saved. I wrote an article about my experience for the Huffington Post and that article caught the attention of the Steve Harvey show. I used a seed of $1000 to start my company Artiste House, and I have never looked back.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I didn’t have a plan so things were rocky at first and I was financially responsible for my family. It was hard and stressful. I knew I wanted to create but literally had zero ideas where to start.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Artiste House is a full-service creative firm. We offer public relations, design, tv/film production and more. As our name suggests, not only do we serve creatives, but we are a team of multidisciplinary artists. WE ARE NOT YOUR TYPICAL FIRM. We blend disruptive strategy, aesthetics and compelling storytelling to produce our impressive results. Our proudest moments include getting local barber Eric “KleanKut” Dixon, his first celebrity client and an article about his work in Forbes. Our other proudest achievement was handling the press for the now viral Lion King on Clubhouse events. We volunteered our time to amplify the work of 40 creatives of color & garnered over 1Billion impressions. Our niche is working with individuals of color and raising their brand awareness so that they can live their dreams full-time. Since I’ve personally done it, I can share my experiences in a way that spares them the mistakes I made along the way.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Your calling lies in the things you enjoy. I was always made to believe that my art was meant to be just a hobby. If there’s something you’re passionate about, you owe it to yourself to give it you’re all.
