Today we’d like to introduce you to Gaurav Gupta.
Hi Gaurav, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from India and came to the States in February 2017 for work. I am the first person in my family to achieve such an accomplishment, and that too on my own without knowing a single soul here. It was a large undertaking and not having any family or friends for support made it so difficult that I was planning to move back to India. I randomly found a Hookah lounge where I started going regularly and met some great people and made close friends along the way. In short, it was because of Hookah that I managed to get over the hump and continued to stay in California. As my enthusiasm for Hookah continued to grow, I realized it was my dream to open my own Hookah lounge. Not too long after meeting my wife, I started frequenting a Hookah lounge in the Ventura area and I ended up working there on a part-time basis to learn how to manage a hookah lounge. The owners of the hookah lounge were young and energetic and taught me about the business. After working there for two years, I decided it was now or never for me to open my own lounge and make my dream a reality. After putting in more than a year of effort to find the perfect location, I am now the proud owner of Blue Lounge.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to success is never easy and smooth, especially starting a new business that caters to a select market. I had so many life-changing events happen within a short span of time; I met and married my wife, we bought our first home and now owned my first Hookah lounge, all in the span of less than three years. It is definitely hard to manage having a primary profession while owning your own business and being newly married. I think the most difficult part is balancing my personal and professional life but I have a strong partner in my wife, and we have accomplished and overcome a lot together.

I work as a Sr. Analyst/Project Lead for one of the biggest IT Consulting organizations with more than 11 years of experience. I am most proud and privileged to be offered the opportunity to come to the States with the company I work for; this opportunity allowed me to accomplish so many life goals and has completely changed my life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Life really is a game of luck. I have always been the type of person who acts quickly or hastily, mostly because if I want something, I know that I want it and will do what it takes to have it. As luck would have it, whenever I have acted hastily, I have always been successful in achieving my goals. This would be anything from the courtship I had with my wife, to spontaneously deciding to buy my dream motorcycle and now opening my own Hookah lounge. Life is all about taking chances, and I think a part of the good luck I have had is because I have taken these chances to get what I want.
