Inspiring Conversations with Esther van Rein of Awareness with Esther

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esther van Rein.

Hi Esther, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am Dutch but was born in London and raised in Germany and Belgium. As a child, it is not easy to leave your familiar small world behind, adjust to a new place, make new friends, and adapt to new school systems. In the end, you don’t have a base, a “home” to go back to. There is even a term for children who grow up with relocating parents, often due to careers: “Third Culture Kids”.

But moving around enriched my life in many ways. You learn to step out of your comfort zone, to embrace changes, to take chances because you know there is a new beginning after every ending. You learn to depend on yourself and to feel at home where you are and to easily connect with people. I feel grateful for having experienced and adjusted to different cultures.

I moved to The Netherlands at age 18 and developed a career in the corporate world. What I observed sparked my interest in psychology, in what drives people to the broadest sense of the word. I went back to college and studied psychological (Jungian) Astrology and coaching for six years. Astrology allows us to thoroughly analyze a personality without unpeeling many layers with talk therapy, and I find it more accurate than results from any personality test out there. I also studied Interior Designing for three years. I planned to combine these skills, but I got too busy getting Astrology clients and so my practice was born naturally.

I helped people to understand themselves and others better and connect with their core nature and help discover their lingering qualities and talents. It brings confirmation and helps to grow self-confidence and discover our path, but it didn’t help to overcome past experiences. I noticed in myself and in my clients how past experiences can still influence our daily reality. Around that time, I moved to the USA and additionally became a FasterEFT practitioner. This allowed me to work with the subconscious mind. Results were great but still limited and pushed me to find the best college for Hypnotherapy in the USA. I graduated with honors, additionally obtaining several specialization certifications via the American Hypnosis Association. Hypnotherapy is a powerful modality that allows us to fully access the unconscious mind. I am thrilled with the results. Meanwhile, here I am, traveling the world, ending up in California, and appreciating all these wonderful cultures and really enjoying who I’ve become on my journey.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My life would have been predictably safer if I had stayed in the corporate world, but it would not have been fulfilling and I am pretty sure this would have had a bad effect on my health. It was not a smooth road but a valuable journey. I had to be bold enough to really face myself and my own challenges.

I spend a year overcoming cancer in 2007 and the effects of the treatment left a mark on my energy level.

More than once, I started over from scratch: in the Netherlands, starting a new career, in Oklahoma where I got married to the wrong person and California. This takes courage and a lot of perseverance.

I never had to market myself in the Netherlands but particularly in California, I noticed that it can be a challenge to become part of existing social networks. And a network creates opportunities. It took time and patience to build a solid clientele, causing financial uncertainty and side-job stress. I am glad I am currently able to exclusively work as a Hypnotherapist and Transformational Life Coach.

I am satisfied with the methods I have learned, and I am grateful for how everything has worked out. The Law of Attraction can’t be underestimated.

As you know, we’re big fans of Awareness with Esther. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I mostly work via Zoom and have clients in several States and in Europe. I am a certified Hypnotherapist and Transformational Life Coach and as such integrate Psychological Astrology, FasterEFT and NLP. This combination sets me apart from others and allows me to offer a tailored approach for every person and presenting issues.

With Psychological Astrology, I address the conscious mind: it helps to reconnect with and discover our core nature and discover our qualities, latent talents, and blind spots. FasterEFT and NLP both address the unconscious mind to a point and help to calm down the effects of negative and upsetting experiences. Hypnotherapy helps to fully access and reprogram the unconscious mind.

Although I integrate all modalities to some extent, Hypnotherapy has become my main tool. I help people with a wide variety of presenting issues (stress, anxiety, fears, smoke cessation, weight loss, stage fright, sports enhancement, and Law of Attraction, to name a few).

Past Life Regression, a form of Hypnotherapy is vastly becoming a specialty I enjoy very much. The past life theory is one of the oldest religious, philosophical, and cultural worldviews. The existence of past lives is widely discussed and is embraced by several religions and rejected by others. Respectfully, whether a past life is a true time-traveling memory, a multiverse experience, a generational or cellular memory, or a metaphorical story made up by our unconscious mind, results are the same.

Regardless of your beliefs, Past Life Regression has a therapeutical value. It helps to gain a new perspective on patterns, health issues, fears and phobias that have no explanation in our current life and allows us to release painful memories. We can remember and learn from positive experiences, perspectives and solutions, supporting the goals we are aiming for now. This might be regarding circumstances, life skills, relationships, health, abundance, or anything else we want to focus on.

It is a fascinating journey through time and space.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I remember our family vacations in France well. We would visit the same little coastal place for years in a row. I can still remember the sound and smell of the Côte d’Or ocean, the warmth of the breeze, the hot sand, the silence in the dunes, the smell of the Scotch broom and French pine trees behind the dunes, still feeling the movement of the waves when in bed.

Our days were timeless; we would get fresh baguettes and croissants, have breakfast and make our lunch for the beach. There were no proper coolers in those days, so we would have yummy hot soggy bread with melted camembert and Nutella, and sand.

We would walk the beach for a long time until there was no soul nearby, set up place, create a little roof with a sheet and stick we would find (and hide again) in the dunes.

We would just relax. We had each other, the ocean, books, a Walkman at some point, and the sun.

We would get tired from the laziness (and the long walks) and on our way back, we would sometimes crash our tanned and salty buts at a local beach diner for some fresh seafood and real French fries before we would head back to our tiny rental. Other days we would make dinner together.

We would visit local towns and have late French dinners at excellent restaurants. My brother and I would stay up and enjoy the frog legs as much as our parents did. They would drink local wines. We would visit their favorite local winery, catch up for hours, and bring home cans of wine and my parents would bottle it themselves, once back in Brussels.
