Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Mendoza.
Hi Erika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been intrigued by skin. Growing up, I had a birthmark on my face, and although that birthmark was a part of my identity, it wasn’t something that I wanted to define me. So, this is where I realized that I am not the only person who has something that they may find an insecurity. I grew to love myself, and later, I had to have my birthmark removed as it was precancerous. BUT this is where my passion began, I had the ability to help people love themselves again, to see past the imperfections that they have. I fell in love with all things skin, once I realized that I could not only help people feel better about themselves but also teach them about their skin, I was fully committed. My goal is to find solutions to people’s “problem skin,” and through that, they will find themselves. It is a labor of love, every individual is different in their concerns, but it is my goal to make every client in my care know that most issues can be addressed and lessened. Teaching my clients is not only my goal but also such an amazing honor, to be trusted to help someone with their face in particular is a huge compliment but also a lifelong commitment, because beauty requires lots of love!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can’t say it has been a smooth road on my end. When it comes to building your business, no one wants to help you. It’s a blessing and a curse. It’s a blessing because you have to push yourself to get all the info you need. The curse is the blood, sweat, and tears. A lot of days second-guessing yourself. But if you stick it out, you will see that it was all worth it!
We’ve been impressed with Evolution Skyn Aesthetics, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a business owner and esthetician
I specialize in making people feel confident in their skin.
I’m most proud of the wealth of knowledge I have gained and the abundance of positive feedback I have gotten from clients.
I would say what sets me apart from others is my hospitality. I treat every client as if it was me in the treatment room.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Advice for a mentor… do a lot of research and make sure the mentor is in your line of practice and has a ton of experience. Don’t get advice from someone that isn’t more knowledgeable and experienced than you.
Being open-minded and really soaking in all that someone has to offer has really been a game-changer for me. Also, believing in yourself.
