Hi Eric, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Studio Arts is Hollywood’s premier 3D animation, visual effects and production design school. Established in 2001, Studio Arts has become a school of choice for motion picture, television and video game professionals seeking training that reflects the latest trends in the entertainment industry.
Studio Arts provides training in Computer Animation, Digital Illustration, Digital Set Design, Gen AI for Artists, Graphic Design, Compositing and VFX, Unreal Engine and Virtual Production. Instructional programs are carefully designed to enable students to easily enhance their professional skills in a reasonable amount of time, and successfully bring those skills to bear for advancing their craft in the entertainment industry.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
These are challenging times for anyone in the entertainment industry. There’s been a work slowdown for most production in film, streaming, TV and other venues due to a lot of factors. Some reasons for this include protracted labor disputes locally, a general malaise in the industry worldwide, and it certainly hasn’t helped that the fires in our area have put people out of homes as well as out of work.
In the past we faced similar hurdles through COVID… which remarkably changed our education model. Where we once did most of our training in classrooms and studios at our physical location, we no do almost all training online.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Studio Arts, Ltd.?
Studio Arts has been in existence for twenty-five years and we have had thousands of entertainment creatives come through our doors in that time. In that group we have had a good number of Academy Award winners and nominees as well as countless Emmy Award winner/nominees who have benefited from our directed training in entertainment industry applications.
What sets us apart from others is that we are a skills-related training school for entertainment professionals. We specialize in what is being used NOW in computer animation, visual effects and virtual production design that are currently or soon to be used in the industry. Unreal Engine, Blender and Generative AI are among those specific skills areas.
We are very proud of the fact that the classes we teach in computer animation, visual effects and production design are often tuition-free or drastically reduced in cost to our students. Student tuition can be funded through special grants and initiatives such as the State of California Employment Training Panel (ETP) and the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA.) This training is offered free of charge to major productions companies such as DreamWorks, CBS,
And we personally see to it that everyone is helped personally by us to achieve their educational goals at no to low cost at a quality level that is better than most charging many thousands of dollars to get there.
No other school in California or anywhere else in the country does what we do and we challenge them to show that they can.
What matters most to you?
I care about our industry and the people working in it. They deserve high quality from a school like ours. What matters most is that we ensure our training is not just relevant, but forward-thinking and preparing folks for all the change that’s here and will be coming in film, TV, streaming, game and virtual production.
Since we do a lot of WIOA training for people who have lost entertainment jobs it makes me think that we are in pretty bad shape right now. To have the fires, political turmoil, increased paranoia from our leaders in Washington, etc,, heaped on top of it… this is making life miserable for the people we care about most.
What matters most to them is to stay focused and tuned in to developments in the changes to work they do. That’s why we dive so deeply into what the companies we deal with let us know they need.
