Inspiring Conversations with Elizabeth Dell of Amorus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Dell.

Hi Elizabeth, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I founded Amorus because I wanted help with Romance with my partner, especially on my phone. There are a world of apps to find a partner, but nothing that helps you KEEP them. Our games and chat tools help couples be delicious – uncovering shared fantasies, flirting, and asking each other new questions. When the pandemic started, I was not in quarantine with a partner, so all our interactions were digital. I wanted that interaction and intimacy and pleasure, but I was struggling to be funny and creative and sexy in the middle of our global apocalypse. So I went looking for tools to help – and found nothing for two people. There was lots to do if I wanted to entertain myself, but if I wanted to make the interaction with my partner better (i.e., a two-player game), all that I found was either old & cheesy or aimed at fixing a broken relationship. I didn’t want Homework – I wanted Fun!

So I decided to make what I wanted to see in the world. It was a big shift from being a film producer, but I like to say that I’ve gone from telling stories to the world to helping the world tell stories to each other.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s never easy to be an entrepreneur, especially when you are building something new. Amorus is Romance Tech for Relationships, which is not a category most people understand. The only Romance Tech most people know is dating apps, so everyone assumes that we are a Dating App too. We are not – there’s no public profiles and no search. The only way to use Amorus is directly with your invited person – you have to send them a 1-to-1 connection request and then you can play together.

We are also addressing Romance and Intimacy and Pleasure, and our world has a complicated relationship with those ideas. So while most people agree that romance is great, when you start discussing intimacy and pleasure and sexuality, companies and platforms can get very conservative very fast. So we have to be very careful about advertising and word choices 🙂

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
There is a multi-billion dollar Romance Tech industry for single people, so why are there no tools to get delicious with the partner you have? Amorus is a safe and sexy games app to spice it up with your romantic partner, helping the 70% of adults already in relationships get and stay amorous. We are free on iOS with thousands of users playing games, uncovering shared fantasies, starting sexy conversations with their partners, and more. We also have a card game, CHAT SPARKS, with sixty-nine playful and tantalizing questions perfect for date night or a spicy party.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck and timing are embedded in my life and business. And sometimes what presents as bad luck ends up being the best thing (and visa versa). When the pandemic started, I was just about to start production on a film – we were casting and planning to shoot in NYC in Summer of 2020. That stopped cold just like all of my film projects. Everything I loved most about producing was gone with no real sense of when it might come back. But it was the lack of film projects that freed up the creative energy to find and build Amorus. Building this app and game has been immensely rewarding and would not have been possible without the other door closing.

Pricing:

  • Amorus App – Free on iOS
