Inspiring Conversations with Dr. Tselane Gardner of Clinical Counseling with Tselane

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Tselane Gardner.

Dr. Tselane Gardner

Hi Dr. Tselane, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into mental health, holistic wellness, and community advocacy began with personal experiences that shaped my passion for healing and empowerment. As a domestic violence and former homelessness survivor, I turned my hardships into purpose, dedicating my life to supporting others in their mental health and wellness journeys.

I began working for the State of California, Medi-Cal Field Office, and California State Police *California Highway Patrol before transitioning into psychology. After earning my advanced degrees in Psychology and Social Behaviors, Social Ecology, Marriage & Family Therapy, and Biblical Counseling, I spent over two decades as a Community Mental Health Professional. During this time, I worked extensively with individuals facing severe mental illness, trauma, domestic violence, hoarding disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. My expertise expanded into African American psychology, sexual assault crisis counseling, and personality disorders.

However, the demands of community mental health began to take a toll on me, and I experienced compassion fatigue, occupational burnout, and vicarious trauma. This led me to explore holistic healing modalities, particularly Sound Bath Therapy and Binaural Beats, to restore emotional balance and promote mental well-being. Recognizing the profound impact of this practice, I decided to pivot from traditional clinical work and establish my practice—Clinical Counseling with Tselane.

I offer Healing Hearts Christian Sound Bath Therapy, Women’s Life Coaching, Motivational Speaking, Mental Health Education, and Community Member Advocacy through my business. I’ve collaborated with service provider agencies to implement sound healing to combat workplace stress and burnout. My programs, such as “Service Provider Wellness,” focus on helping frontline workers manage the emotional toll of their work.

Over the years, I’ve expanded my work through workshops, conferences, and private sessions. I’ve presented at significant events, including the City of Seal Beach Management Staff, State of California Department of Mental Health, and Elevate Women’s Conference, and have collaborated with organizations like Crime Survivors, UC Irvine’s Campus Assault Resources Education program, Minority Health Institute, the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder of SoCal and California Oncology Research Institute to name a few. I recently earned my 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certificate, further enriching my holistic approach to wellness.

I continue to grow my practice, offering community sound baths, private sessions, and corporate wellness programs. I aim to bridge the gap between mental health and holistic healing, empowering individuals to reclaim their peace and resilience through sound therapy and self-care practices.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not always been smooth, but every challenge has strengthened my faith and deepened my commitment to this work. One of the most difficult struggles has been facing criticism from fellow Christians regarding my practice as a Christian Sound Bath Practitioner. Some have questioned or even reprimanded me, misunderstanding the role of sound healing in biblical and spiritual wellness. It has been disheartening to experience people distancing themselves from me simply because I have embraced this calling.

However, I see my business as more than just a practice—it is a ministry. God has been using me as a healer, guiding me to help others find peace, restoration, and spiritual renewal through sound. My foundation in scripture is unwavering, and 1 Samuel 16:23 serves as a guiding light for my work:

“And whenever the tormenting spirit from God troubled Saul, David would play the harp. Then Saul would feel better, and the tormenting spirit would go away.”

This verse affirms that sound has been used as a healing tool since biblical times. Just as David played the harp to bring relief to Saul, I believe God has given me this gift to help others through Healing Hearts Christian Sound Bath Therapy. Despite the criticism, I remain steadfast in my purpose, trusting that those who are meant to receive this healing will find their way to it. My journey has taught me resilience, and I am continuously reminded that obedience to God’s calling often comes with challenges—but also with great rewards.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Clinical Counseling with Tselane?

I also provide Women’s Life Coaching, Motivational Speaking, Mental Health Education, and Community Advocacy designed to help individuals reclaim their peace and resilience.

What Do I Specialize In?
I specialize in helping service providers, survivors, and community members heal from occupational burnout, vicarious trauma, and compassion fatigue. My work is especially impactful for first responders, therapists, educators, and caregivers—those who pour into others but often struggle to find spaces for their own healing. My Service Provider Wellness programs offer a much-needed sanctuary for those in high-stress professions.

Beyond serving professionals, I also host community sound baths, private sound healing sessions, and wellness workshops, bringing holistic healing to those who have never had access to these practices.

What Sets Me Apart?
What makes Healing Hearts Christian Sound Bath Therapy unique is that it is rooted in both faith and science. While many sound bath experiences draw solely from Eastern traditions, I incorporate biblical principles. I recognize that sound has long been used as a spiritual and emotional healing tool, with a foundation of the Bible verse (1 Samuel 16:23) to bring my attendees healing, peace, and wellness. My sessions are designed for relaxation and as a means for deep spiritual connection and emotional restoration.

My background as a Clinical Mental Health Professional with over two decades of experience gives me a unique perspective. I don’t just offer sound healing—I understand trauma, stress, and mental health at a clinical level. This allows me to provide a safe, informed, and transformative experience for those seeking relief from emotional burdens.

What Am I Most Proud of Brand-Wise?
I am most proud of how Healing Hearts Christian Sound Bath Therapy breaks barriers and shifts narratives. In many faith-based communities, sound healing has been misunderstood or overlooked. I am honored to be a pioneer in integrating faith-based sound healing with mental wellness, helping people see that self-care and spirituality go hand in hand.

I am also proud of the collaborations and impact my business has made. From partnering with retreat centers, wellness studios, and service provider agencies for example, Crime Survivors, YWCA of San Gabriel Basket, Lakewood Family YMCA to presenting at major conferences like the Elevate Women’s Conference, City of Los Alamitos, City of Seal Beach, Minority Health Institute, I have been able to share this healing practice with diverse communities meaningfully.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
One of the things I love most about our city is its diversity and openness to new experiences. It’s where people from all walks of life come together, bringing different cultures, perspectives, and ideas. This creates a fluid and dynamic energy, making it an ideal environment for holistic healing and wellness practices like Healing Hearts Christian Sound Bath Therapy. The willingness of people to explore new ways of healing and self-care is genuinely inspiring, and it allows my work to flourish in a community that values personal growth and well-being.

If I had to choose one challenge, it would be the traffic and congestion. Navigating through the city can sometimes be overwhelming, and the fast-paced nature of urban life can add stress to daily routines. This is why creating spaces for relaxation, stillness, and inner peace is so important. In all the hustle, people need moments to breathe, reset, and reconnect with themselves—and that’s what I strive to offer through my sound healing practice.
