Hi Diana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Thank you for having me, and certainly. I grew up in a predominantly Latino community, where I bore witness to the stark inequalities in healthcare access and standards that frequently afflicted the wider population. Motivated by both the needs of my community and my personal encounters with the complexities of the healthcare system, I was driven to effect change.
I can trace back to when my journey began during my formative years. During this stage in my life, I cultivated a deep sense of empathy and service toward others. Guided by my mother’s example of helping those in need, I became known in my neighborhood as someone adept at assisting with “healthcare paperwork,” such as deciphering and completing documents and translating for Spanish speakers to bridge language gaps. My mother would say, “If we can help, why not.”
Another experience I can reflect on that defined my future trajectory was when I endured a traumatic car accident and lacked healthcare coverage at the time. This was just before my high school graduation and leaving for UC Davis for undergrad. Suffering severe injuries, I found myself in the hospital, burdening my parents with overwhelming medical bills. Fortunately, a compassionate volunteer at the hospital aided my parents in navigating the labyrinth of the healthcare system, that still is, and easing my parents’ financial strain by helping them find donors that help pay medical bills and get healthcare insurance assistance. The volunteer went above and beyond for us, and I wanted to pass it forward and help people get insured so that they would not experience what my parents and I did.
These pivotal experiences left an indelible mark on me, propelling me toward a path that would see me evolve into a healthcare executive and the Founder of OneReliant Insurance Agency.
I can undoubtedly say my purpose revealed itself through these experiences. The journey was not and has not been easy to get where I am today, but it has been worth it, and I continue to remain steadfast and driven by my resolute commitment to improve healthcare access, guide individuals through the intricacies of the healthcare landscape, and effect change within healthcare organizations.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Throughout my journey, I’ve encountered numerous challenges that are inherent in any ambitious pursuit. These obstacles, setbacks, and the unpredictable nature of business have all played a defining role in shaping my path. Being the first in my family to pursue higher education, I proudly obtained my master’s degree in health administration from USC—Fight On! Moreover, I acquired healthcare certifications in Compliance and Privacy, along with receiving my California Producer License. Alongside my academic pursuits, I engaged in various leadership roles within healthcare organizations, participated in community projects, and initiated my career as an insurance broker.
Navigating through my academic and professional endeavors was a solitary journey devoid of parental or communal guidance. Limited access to resources such as the Internet propelled me to rely on free resources and the public library. Fortunately, I encountered mentors who provided invaluable guidance, fostering my curiosity and prompting me to ask probing questions.
For the past seven years, I’ve been immersed in the insurance industry across California, culminating in the founding of OneReliant Insurance Agency in 2022. Establishing my agency was a vision born out of a desire to redefine the insurance experience. Despite setbacks caused by the pandemic in 2020, I persevered as an essential worker, resuming my agency plans once conditions improved.
Launching OneReliant came with its share of challenges, from navigating regulatory approvals for the agency name to establishing the business infrastructure and securing contracts with insurance carriers. The heavily regulated nature of the insurance industry only added complexity to these tasks. Nevertheless, I remained undeterred, driven by a sense of purpose aligned with my values and shared by my fellow agents.
At OneReliant, our ethos centers on delivering exceptional, personalized, and compassionate service, rooted in my experiences assisting my community with healthcare paperwork and translation services. Amidst the demands of sustaining and growing the business, achieving work-life balance remains a constant challenge. Yet, I am steadfast in my commitment to our mission, always mindful that each individual we serve is someone’s cherished family member, echoing the empathy and support I once received.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
My upbringing was shaped by the encouragement of my parents and elders, who recognized my innate positivity and willingness to lend a hand. From a young age, I actively sought opportunities to volunteer at church, school, and within my community. This sense of communal spirit has remained with me throughout my life, as I continually find myself fostering connections and engaging with various communities wherever I go. I’m genuinely drawn to people and their stories, firmly believing that each individual has something valuable to share and that through sharing, we can both learn and connect on a deeper level.
On a personal note, during high school, I was involved in scholarship pageants, student government, and sports. During my undergrad studies and as I have grown, my interests have expanded to include hiking, destination running, and exploring the culinary world as a food enthusiast. Recently, I picked up golfing and I am enjoying the sport. Family time holds a special place in my heart, and I cherish moments spent catching up with friends during my downtime. You can find me at a family or friend’s event on the weekends if I am not at a health fair or community event.
