Inspiring Conversations with Deborah Gorman of SorBabes Inc, DBA Fruitful Brands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Gorman.

Hi Deborah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We started selling SorBabes in Farmers Marketing in 2012. We were nicknamed the SorBabes, it stuck. We sold pints of unique sorbet flavors in the New York area. We partnered with one of the largest ice cream companies in North America and exited in 2020. We relaunched SorBabes under Fruitful Brands. In 2023 we launched a new brand Fudgy Pops now in national distribution with Sprouts. SorBabes and Fudgy Pops are in over 1500 stores nationwide. Nicole Cardon and Deborah Gorman are the founders and we are proudly 100% women-owned.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a roller coaster. There are extreme highs and we have hit the lowest lows. And sometimes they happen in the same day. We have bootstrapped our business 2x. We have had 4 profitable years and we exited in 2020. Then we found ourselves in a pandemic with young children at home and we decided it was a good time to start a new company, ha ha, so which we bootstrapped our business again. We have never taken on investors and our business is entirely women owned. For the first time we are looking for an equity partner and we are excited to find a partner who will join us as we have a clear and very profitable path ahead of us. It’s been a crazy journey and we know even more exciting times are ahead of us!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We manufacture frozen desserts. Our bars and pop are beyond delicious and they are made with real ingredients. They happen to be dairy-free and gluten-free and taste better than their dairy competition. I specialize in Innovation, R&D and product commercialization. I also do marketing and social media. We are so proud of the desserts we make. The flavors are incredible. Seriously don’t trust me go taste them for yourself. What sets us apart from others is our experience. We have been in the frozen dessert space for almost 13 years. And we put so much love into the novelty bars we make. We can’t wait for you to taste them!
