Inspiring Conversations with Daphna Shalom of Beverlywood Med

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daphna Shalom.

Hi Daphna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up with a deep love of art; acrylic paint on canvas. Art was my first love. But I‘m a very practical person, even as a teenager, I knew I wanted a profession and a stable one. And so the artist became a physician assistant aka PA!

After graduating PA school in 2014, I immediately began a specialty in neurology working under Dr. Ravinder Singh; with a focus on migraine headaches. Dr. Singh trained me in treating migraine patients with therapeutic Botox injections.

This is the moment I realized that art actually did have a place in medicine. Although I was strictly treating migraine patients with therapeutic Botox for symptom relief, there were noted cosmetic changes with each treatment. Precision and symmetry truly mattered to ensure not only an excellent therapeutic outcome but also one that left the patients looking presentable.

This is when my interest in cosmetic Botox peaked. On my spare time, I took cosmetic Botox training courses, watched 100s of YouTube videos month after month on different techniques, shadowed aesthetic injectors, and eventually started practicing cosmetic Botox injections on family and friends.

After five years of practicing neurology and therapeutic Botox for migraines, I was itching to do something more creative and artistic.

With Dr. Singh’s support, I founded Beverlywood Med in 2019, a so-to-speak ‘Botox boutique’ with easy scheduling, little to no wait times, and most importantly an injector whose willingness to educate and meticulousness in technique gives her patients a deep sense a trust. The idea is like getting Botox by your best friend. Essentially, I took my artistic passion and skill and combined it with my second love, medicine.

Once the beauty side of Beverlywood Med settled in, we decided to add another service to our practice. With mine and Dr. Singh’s strong belief in holistic and alternative medicine in addition to conventional Western medicine, together we introduced IV hydration and IV vitamin therapy to our practice and became a beauty AND wellness practice.

Treating patients from intractable migraines, to chronic fatigue, to a simple respiratory virus, we utilize our IV vitamin cocktails to lessen our patient’s symptoms and improve their overall quality of life. Some of our patients get our IV treatments just for general wellness. For example, we have companies requesting mobile IV hydration and vitamin boosts for their employees before group marathons or other team-building activities. This in-office and mobile service has changed and improved the lives of so many of our incredible patients.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ha! This is a great question. Actually, Covid hit very soon into our journey. Our practice had to shut down for the safety of our patients. We were pretty stressed about this. Once things calmed down and Covid lockdown ended, we temporarily became a concierge mobile practice, screening patients prior to any treatments, doing treatments outdoors only, and double-masked as you can imagine. Shockingly, this actually built our clientele tremendously because new patients felt more comfortable utilizing our Covid safe services than going to their usual doctor’s office. We were getting 2-3 referrals per patient and by a couple of months into this Covid safe practice we were fully booked up two weeks out. To quote Julie Andrews in ‘The Sound of Music’, “When God closes a door, somewhere he opens a window.”

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am truly proud that we have a reputation of caring deeply for our patients, their results and their well-being. Before being a business, we are a community. Our patients can text us any hour of the day with questions or concerns. We follow up. We care. We as a practice are perfectionists. I am proud that we help women and men look and FEEL better. People always ask, “What’s your plan for Beverlywood Med to become HUGE?” I don’t think I want to become “huge”. I think what sets us apart and why we’re so successful is that we treat each patient like they are our friend and not like a stranger. And that is only achievable if we remain a small niche practice aka “mom and pop”ish.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Our greatest support are our patients who refer us their family and friends.
