Inspiring Conversations with Crosby Carter of Crosby Carter Management

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crosby Carter

Hi Crosby, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Starting out young in Los Angeles at an agency, then moving to New York City and back to LA, I found myself navigating the territory of beauty representation just as celebrities replaced models on magazine covers, shifting the public’s perception of beauty. Learning from industry pioneers like Cloutier, I was inspired to build a career that would eventually span over three decades.

After years at top agencies, my desire to create a more personal and efficient environment led me to establish Crosby Carter Management. Here, we prioritize trust and speed, reflecting the fast-paced nature of our industry.

Perseverance and confidence have been key. I’ve learned from both my own and others’ mistakes, understanding the importance of calculated risks. Representing numerous talented artists across eight firms has taught me the value of resilience and strategic thinking.

Today, Crosby Carter Management stands as a testament to hard work and a dedication to excellence. Our goal is to support our artists, helping them shine on the world’s biggest stages, while always pushing the boundaries of beauty representation.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting in an industry that was then niche and uncharted meant navigating through numerous challenges. Early on, the lack of established pathways and resources made it difficult to find mentors and opportunities. Starting a business involves financial risks, long hours, and the pressure to succeed. I had to learn on the go, often through trial and error. Learning from mistakes, taking calculated risks, and staying true to my vision has been essential in overcoming the obstacles along the way.

The fast-paced nature of the beauty and entertainment industries also meant that I had to constantly adapt and stay ahead of trends, which was both exciting and daunting. The need to streamline communication and decision-making processes was crucial to landing deals swiftly and efficiently. Balancing these internal dynamics while maintaining the highest standards of representation required strategic thinking and resilience.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Crosby Carter Management?
Crosby Carter Management specializes in representing top-tier talent in the beauty industry, those who are brand ambassadors and setting the trends for the trend makers.

We work with highly sought after pillars of the industry. Beyond their lifetimes of innovation and cutting-edge work, which often sets trends in the beauty and fashion worlds, they are spokespeople in both the professional beauty industry as well culturally to the public.

I am proud to have represented the artists behind such corporations as Procter & Gamble, Unilver, L’Oreal, Henkel, Coty, ABG & LVMH. These days, the word “brand” can mean different things as I call each of my artists brands in themselves just as their clients are: Charlize Theron, Margot Robbie, Priyanka Chopra, Mariah Carey & Jennifer Lopez.

It is easier to stay ahead of industry trend, if you love trend, the history of your field and hearing what the icons who made the industry what it is today – from fashion and beauty to entertainment – screen or stage both music and acting and those who do both. As I like to say choice talent is not only about their hand and eye but about their passion and personality. My artists have both.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Networking, thick skin, determination, and supportive friends help, but there’s a lot in luck. I don’t believe anyone who says luck didn’t help them. They made a ton of calls, sent countless emails, attended many parties, and kept in touch with more people than they otherwise would. So, DO IT ALL!
