Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Melanson.
Hi Chloe, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Nothing makes me happier than taking a nap on the beach. My happiest moments and memories have been made somewhere by the water in a bikini.
As I got older and became more aware of society’s beauty standards, the thought of starting a swimwear line seemed impossible. I would pick apart my body and make every excuse under the sun why I couldn’t chase my dream.
I had the designs, the experience, and the passion but I let my figure determine my fate.
After a while, I got really tired of making excuses. I had been battling body dysmorphia and actively getting help with my ED when I finally decided it was time to embark on my own journey.
Rooted Swim began as a message to not live in fear. To stay grounded, be strong, stay true to yourself, and live your life. For me, my best and happiest moments are in a bikini and I want to use Rooted Swim as a way to encourage others to live without fear.
We are meant to do so much more than worry about what we look like.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not but I wouldn’t change a thing.
Swimwear is especially challenging when you are working with a garment that is as close to publically naked as you can get. It is a very vulnerable time for the majority of individuals.
I am constantly trying to improve fits and styles because nothing is more important to me than representation. I don’t believe in a one size fits all and I believe our bodies are beautifully and perfectly designed so each suit has to be made to fit you. You are not made to fit the suits.
As a business owner, there are a lot of late nights and I feel stressed all the time but it is worth it. I am passionate about what I do and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
We’ve been impressed with Rooted Swim, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Rooted Swim is designed to empower and uplift. We are very proud of the community we have built. We are here to encourage others to fulfill their purpose and we do it through bikinis.
Society’s beauty and body expectations today pay a toll on us and are especially heightened by social media. We are here to remind you that you are beautifully and wonderfully made.
Wear the bikini. Take a vacation. Live your life, you aren’t worth anything less!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I have found that you give what you get.
I personally do not gatekeep. If another business comes up to me and asks about my products, I let them know whatever they need. How can I preach empowerment to my customers but not my fellow entrepreneurs?
I have been blessed to meet some very amazing entrepreneurs and we look out for each other. Business can get very ugly, very fast but I believe in staying true to your values and things will always work out one way or another.
