Inspiring Conversations with Channon Butler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Channon Butler.

Hi Channon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to do hair. It made me feel helpful and accomplished and it took off from there. When I was in 8th grade, I was already braid everyone’s hair, even the basketball team to make some extra money. From there my passion grew, and I started beauty school five days after graduating high school at the age of 17. I finished 1600 hours in one year at Lancaster beauty college. After working in a shop for a year and being discouraged from lack of clientele, I tried my hand at other jobs like retail, corporations and even medical assisting to support my daughter and I as a single mother. After feeling defeated, living with my parents and feeling unfulfilled, I decided to persevere and continue exploring my passion in the beauty industry. I started working at a salon in Palmdale and the rest was history. I’ve been working for myself ever since and went from renting chairs to opening my very own Salon / Beauty Supply store “Hair it is beauty supplies and hair salon” in Santa Clarita, CA.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I would have to say the biggest struggle for me was being a single mother. Knowing that you have not only yourself but another person depending on you and your choices. That can sometimes be scary and make you want something more stable, but I realized if I wanted to make my dreams come true, I had to take the chance on myself. I am so happy I took those steps because now I work for myself and am building my empire.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize in extensions, healthy hair care and styling children’s hair. I pride myself on making sure all of my clients have the best experience from start to finish when they step foot in my salon, from customer service to teaching them how to care for their own hair and really making it a hair journey they can enjoy and learn to love their hair! I am very proud to bring the very first Salon/beauty supply store to the Santa Clarita valley. I wanted to create an all in one stop shop for women to get their hair done and purchase any products to maintain it. I will be adding more services in the salon soon, stay tuned by following my IG and Facebook pages for more!

What were you like growing up?
I have always been very outgoing, motivated and determined to accomplish anything I put my mind to! I always had an entrepreneur spirit, making and selling my own candy and braiding hair in middle school for all my friends. I was able to turn the passion and hustle into my career and that’s the full-circle moment of knowing when you follow your dreams, there is nothing you can’t do!
