Today we’d like to introduce you to Chandler Tang.
Hi Chandler, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in San Francisco and stayed in the Bay Area for college. After graduating from college, I jumped from many different careers. I majored in Art History, where the path is not clearly defined.
Trying to figure it all out, I worked in corporate beauty and fashion (Sephora and Levi’s) and at several start-ups (jewelry and furniture). After rough days at my last corporate job, I started to work on a dream project late at night: a shop of my own in my very hometown. It was an “ah-ha” moment: as if my higher self knew all along, just not yet fully realized.
I wanted to run a local shop where I grew up. I ventured to create a place of inspiration, a place to explore and promote creativity, and ultimately a respite from online shopping. To create a point of difference in SF retail and fulfill the need for more gift shops.
Running a small business runs in my family. Over the years, they collectively ran many small businesses in the Bay Area.
We launched our online store during the pandemic and now we are brick+mortar and online store. Post.script. just celebrated our three years anniversary this past November.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like many other businesses, the pandemic impacted our business. We opened just 4.5 months before the pandemic (Nov 2019). We were such a young business, still figuring it all out. I launched our online store overnight, learned how to ship, and did local delivery. I’m thankful that the pandemic pushed us to go online (sooner).
Also, I’m still learning every day as a small business owner.
As you know, we’re big fans of Post.script. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
