Today we’d like to introduce you to Champ Panupong Techawongthawon.
Hi Champ Panupong, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Let’s go back to 2013. My first career was started in Thailand after I graduated around that time. I worked for a board cast company as a graphic designer, editor, compositor and animator. I did a little bit of everything. I got burned out. I hated my job, so I decided to become a monk. During I was a monk. I found my own voice again. I felt like I wanted to pursue something for my life. I moved to the United States in 2014 and I went to SCAD 2016 for motion graphic design. It was one of the best things ever because I met so many talented people. I learned so much from there. I become who I am because of my experience at that school.
In 2017, he graduated with MA in Motion Media from Savannah College of Art and Design. Since then, I moved to Boston to work in an animation/production house called Black Math. Then in December of 2018, I moved to Los Angeles to join another animation house, Buck then turned freelance. He specializes a lot in shapes, type, branding and abstract 2D animation.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Today everything is going smoothly but back in 2018, it wasn’t at all. I almost gave up everything because my visa got expired and my green card application got denied. It took me two years to figure things out with my immigration status.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We provide a service for clients and studios who need to create beautiful designs and animations for their brands. We are specializing in 2D type animation and 2D abstract geometric shapes. Creating infographic animation and brand video is our favorite. We also provide full service for clients. We can help with music, sound effects, storyboards and concepts.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Negotiation skill is one of the most important lessons. I know my worth. We don’t always get paid as we should. I always ask clients for more money. If they don’t have a budget, we need to find a middle ground for you and your client. Clients always want to pay less and want a good quality of work. We need to explain to them why we charge this much. Sometimes we might need to educate them for a bit.
