Today we’d like to introduce you to Bea Ohanian.
Hi Bea, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my nursing journey a little later than most. In my 20s, I had a biology degree but wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. Like many others in their twenties, I felt lost and unsure of my direction. Everything changed when I went in for an aesthetic treatment before my wedding day—expecting to see a doctor, but instead, a nurse performed the procedure. Something about that moment clicked. That very same day, I applied to multiple nursing schools.
I got in—and immediately found out I was pregnant with my first child. I didn’t take any breaks (nursing school is unforgiving!). I graduated and passed my boards just three days before the COVID-19 epidemic began and the world shut down. I began my career in the hospital as a COVID nurse, gaining invaluable experience during a time of uncertainty and chaos.
But I never lost sight of my true passion: aesthetic and regenerative medicine. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of feeling good from the inside out—graceful aging, natural beauty, and wellness that radiates from within. During my first year at the hospital, I transitioned into aesthetics, first at a med spa and then at the office of world-renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Leif Rogers in Pasadena. That’s where I learned how powerful the integration of aesthetics and regenerative medicine could be. It was also during this time that I became pregnant with my second child and started FNP school.
I knew then that I wanted to create a space where patients could find beauty and peace in the midst of their busy lives. In 2023, I founded BeautiTree Aesthetic Boutique inside the Burlington Arcade—a place where internal health and outer beauty come together in a meaningful, personalized way. Alongside this, I continue to work as an internal medicine nurse practitioner at Southern California Internists Medical Group in Pasadena. Staying active in both aesthetic and traditional medicine helps me grow and stay grounded as a practitioner.
None of this would have been possible without the mentors, opportunities, and even the challenges that pushed me forward. From the mental breakdowns to the milestones, I’m proud to now stand as a successful aesthetic and internal medicine nurse practitioner—and as a mother with a family I love. I feel very grateful.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. I started my nursing career during one of the most unstable times in healthcare. COVID-19 was still a deadly and unknown virus, guidelines were constantly shifting, and as new nurses, we were thrown into frontline roles with very little preparation. Being a new grad in that environment was incredibly tough—but it also shaped me. It taught me resilience, how to work under pressure, and how to truly connect with people during some of their most vulnerable moments.
On top of that, navigating pregnancy during both nursing school and FNP school was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. There were so many sleepless nights, moments of self-doubt, challenges with newborns, breastfeeding, school deadlines, and balancing the learning curve of aesthetics—which is a world entirely different from traditional nursing. There were days I truly felt like I couldn’t keep going.
I wouldn’t have made it without the strong support system around me—my husband, mentors, and friends who lifted me up and helped shape who I am today. All I can say is that the difference between mediocrity and greatness is the ability to keep going even when everything feels impossible—and to always stay grounded and humble along the way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about beautiTree Aesthetic Boutique ?
BeautiTree Aesthetic Boutique is a private practice I founded in Pasadena with the goal of creating something more intentional than just a med spa. We specialize in natural and regenerative treatments, with a strong emphasis on graceful aging and enhancing what’s already there—not changing it.
What sets us apart is our background. Both myself and Jessica Ranjbar, NP, come from plastic surgery, where we were trained in advanced aesthetic procedures and complex facial anatomy. That experience allows us to approach every treatment with a high level of precision, safety, and artistry.
We’re known for delivering subtle, elevated results and creating a space where people feel safe, cared for, and understood. Our goal is to help clients feel confident both externally and internally. That’s also why I continue to practice internal medicine as a nurse practitioner at Southern California Internists Medical Group. I love being able to support people through both wellness and beauty—because it’s all connected.
What I’m most proud of brand-wise is that BeautiTree stands for more than just beauty . It’s about self-love, mutual trust, and making people feel like the best version of themselves. Whether someone comes in for a regenerative skin treatment or just needs a moment to breathe and reset, I want them to leave feeling better than when they walked in.
How do you think about luck?
I think luck has definitely played a role—both good and bad. I was incredibly lucky to have two healthy pregnancies, especially while going through nursing school and later, FNP school. Getting into nursing school on my first attempt and landing a job with Dr. Leif Rogers, a world-renowned plastic surgeon, were also moments where I felt luck was definitely on my side.
On the other hand, starting my nursing career at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic felt like really bad timing. But looking back, it was also what shaped me into a stronger, more resilient nurse—one who could think quickly, stay calm under pressure, and really connect with patients during some of their hardest moments.
Out of everything though, having two healthy children is the greatest luck I’ve ever had. Everything else—school, career, opportunities—means so much more because of them.
