Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Carro.
Hi Anthony, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started Candle Delirium in 2003 when a luxury stand-alone candle store did not exist. The flagship store opened on Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood and has stood at the same location for over 20 years. We opened with 1,700 sq feet and have grown to 3,400 sq feet. We are currently the largest candle store in the world, offering over 90 brands of the world’s finest home fragrances, including candles and diffusers. Room sprays, and more. There have been many ups and down.
Anthony Carro is the founder of Candle Delirium. He is known for his passion for high-quality, luxury candles. He established Candle Delirium in West Hollywood, recognizing a niche market for premium candles. His vision was to create a one-stop destination for a wide range of luxury candles, catering to customers seeking both quality and variety. Anthony’s dedication to offering an extensive selection of top-tier brands has made Candle Delirium a go-to place for candle enthusiasts. His store is celebrated for its diverse range, including eco-friendly and designer options, reflecting his commitment to both luxury and sustainability in the candle market.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been an interesting road; I would not say a smooth road. Candle Delirium has survived 2 recessions, 2 Hollywood union strikes, and a pandemic… We have endured some very difficult and uncertain times and learned a lot about survival in the retail world, but overall, we have been lucky and skillful to be able to stay in business for 20 years, growing and thriving year over year.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband, Joel Kehle, has been a tremendous cheerleader since the very inception of Candle Delirium in 2002. He helped me come up with the name Candle Delirium and helped flesh out the concept. He believed in me and the concept since the beginning, and to this day, has always been supportive, in good and bad times.
I have had the pleasure of working with great people over the years. My employees have been an integral part in helping Candle Delirium grow and be successful. This includes the store manager, Brice Oates, who has been with the company for 15 years; he is also a buyer, store merchandiser, and a specialist in the private label business for Candle Delirium. Brice is especially gifted with decorative and merchandising skills and helps give Candle Delirium its well-known and special atmosphere. Special mention and shoutouts to Stacy Greenberg (website support) and Rose Ghavami (personal assistant) for their unending support, dedication, and loyalty.
