Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Lord Posey.
Hi Amy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I went to a performing arts school as a teen. I was the one on the subway leaving school going on any theater auditions I Broadway had to offer a 15 years old. I eventually wound up being cast as Tina in Tony n Tina’s Wedding which was what eventually brought me to California. I was at Noble Talent Agency in NY prior to Tony n Tina’s so my intro to the agenting world started young.
While in Ca, I wrote two shows that began in lA and found a forever home in NYC. I co-authored Grandma Sylvia’s Funeral which enjoyed a long off Bwy run as well as touring. Club Disco enjoyed a run in NY and then came
The Boychick Affair which also enjoyed an NYC run (after LA) as well as a thriving Florida company.
I do freelance for Kveller and Huffington post as a contributing writer.
I was working as a manager during this time and then transitioned back to agenting where I was at LB Talent for many years.
I was then offered a partner position at Eris which was an amazing opportunity and grateful that I took years ago.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing up was a bit rough. I lost my mom when I was five and I was what they call a latch-key kid with a tough Brooklyn attitude. Sometimes I can’t believe I made it past 16. I found myself is some questionable situations and learned about safe auditioning the hard way. This is why I am very passionate about children being safe in the business. Moving out to California was challenging, I was a die-hard New Yorker and the transition wasn’t smooth.
When my show Grandma Sylvia’s opened in NY, I also chose to only stay in NY for a limited time since I was expecting my first child. Hindsite is 20/20 – It took a while to “come into my own”- I am blessed, I have an amazing husband and we are a family with seven remarkable children.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Eris Talent Agency is a full-service agency. I am one of three female partners. We specialize in tv, film, theater, commercials and have a very strong literary department. We have 11 agents in all, each specializing in their own department. The size of our agency is boutique-y enough to allow us to dedicate our time and energy to our clients.
I think that personal touch and the fact that we truly know our clients set us apart. I have walked the walk as a creative artist and writer so I appreciate the struggle. There is nothing better than calling a client to give them the good news that they booked or that Production Company wants to meet regarding your script.
All of the agents in our offices are so dedicated, knowledgeable and committed which allows us to grow as a top agency.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I love people and hearing their stories and where they came from. The investment in my clients and their goals and dreams is what drives me to work hard. I am honest, to a fault and my clients appreciate that. I have walked the walk, I know what it takes to keep going.
I am married to an actor (John Posey) and seasoned writer, my daughter (Jamie McRae) and stepsons (Tyler & Jesse Posey) are also in the business. I see what dedication it takes to keep going and wake up each morning, feeling excited about the day.
