Today we’d like to introduce you to Alynn Cauldwell.
Hi Alynn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a private practice in the Naples neighborhood of Long Beach, California. I have been practicing psychotherapy since 2004 and opened my private practice in 2017 with a clear vision: to create a space where people feel safe, understood, and empowered to heal.
My career began working within the Orange County court system, where I gained invaluable experience supporting individuals and families navigating complex legal and emotional challenges. I later worked extensively in substance abuse treatment, an experience that deeply shaped my clinical perspective. Working within the county system taught me resilience, humility, and the importance of meeting people exactly where they are. It also strengthened my belief in every person’s capacity for change.
After completing EMDR training, I felt called to expand my impact by opening my private practice. I had witnessed firsthand how powerful and transformative this modality could be, and I wanted to offer clients a treatment approach that could help them process trauma, reduce distress, and move forward with clarity and confidence.
I genuinely love the work I do. It is a privilege to walk alongside individuals and couples as they heal old wounds, build stronger relationships, and create more fulfilling lives. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that meaningful change is always possible.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey as a therapist has not been without its own challenges. Shortly after opening my private practice, I was diagnosed with cancer while also navigating a divorce. It was an incredibly difficult season—personally and professionally. There were moments of uncertainty, grief, and profound change.
I continued showing up for my clients even as I was doing my own healing work. That experience reshaped me. It deepened my empathy, strengthened my resilience, and expanded my understanding of what it truly means to move through hardship.
People often say, “What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.” I’ve never loved that phrase. Strength isn’t always loud or triumphant. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s simply getting up each day and taking the next step. What I know for certain is that walking through cancer and divorce gave me a lived understanding of the vulnerability, fear, and courage that accompany life’s most difficult transitions.
Coming through that chapter, I carry not just professional training, but personal insight into the complexity of healing. I understand how disorienting life can feel when everything shifts at once—and I also know that growth, clarity, and renewal are possible on the other side.
As you know, we’re big fans of Alynn Cauldwell, Family Therapist, Inc. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I maintain a boutique private practice in the Naples neighborhood of Long Beach, located in the Naples Plaza Medical Building. My office sits on the third floor, overlooking Alamitos Bay—a peaceful setting that offers both privacy and a sense of calm for the work we do. It’s a space intentionally chosen to feel welcoming, grounded, and restorative.
In addition to my clinical work, I am proud to mentor and supervise two associate therapists within my practice. Supporting early-career clinicians as they grow in confidence, skill, and professional identity is deeply meaningful to me. I especially enjoy helping them build the knowledge and foundation needed not only to become strong clinicians, but to eventually launch and sustain their own successful practices once licensed.
Creating a practice that supports both clients and developing therapists has become one of the most rewarding aspects of my professional journey.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
