Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Emery
Hi Alexis, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
At 19, I set out to make a positive change in my life and that’s when I discovered CrossFit. I fell in love with it instantly. I was training 5–6 days a week, sometimes twice a day, and it quickly became more than just a workout—it became a passion. That commitment eventually led me to jiu jitsu, and from there, fitness became a core part of my identity.
During that time, I took a trip to Hawaii and dropped into a local CrossFit gym run by a husband and wife. Watching them live their dream together sparked something in me—it planted a seed. Life eventually moved in a different direction, and I found myself focused on supporting myself and pursuing a new career path as a court reporter.
But life has a way of coming full circle! After the gym I was attending merged with another, I met Tyler—who happened to be the owner of Tyler’s Gym. We connected instantly, both driven by the same passion for fitness. Today, Tyler and I run the gym side by side, turning that once distant dream into our everyday reality. We’ve built a life centered around health, community, and doing what we love–together!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
By the time I met Tyler, he had already been running the gym for about 5–6 years. I, on the other hand, had never ventured into anything entrepreneurial. I came from a background in serving and working as a court reporting student. Needless to say, I had a TON of catching up to do.
Stepping into this new world was a crash course in entrepreneurship. Becoming my own boss, setting my own schedule—it sounds exciting, but the reality was challenging. It wasn’t always glamorous, but the experience pushed me to grow in ways I never expected. Over time, I learned how to stay disciplined, driven, and self-motivated and that’s what shaped me into the entrepreneur I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Entering the fitness industry, I quickly realized that making a real impact goes far beyond just workouts; It’s about attention to detail, personalized support, and showing up for people in meaningful ways. On top of managing the business side, we take pride in truly honoring the expectations our members come in with.
At Tyler’s Gym, we’re known for creating a space where people feel seen, supported, and challenged in the best way. What sets us apart is our commitment to not just fitness, but to the overall experience—building community, fostering accountability, and helping people grow stronger inside and out. That level of care is something I’m incredibly proud to be part of.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I had never stuck with something long enough to push through the “beginner” phase until I started practicing jiu jitsu. My coach, Ernie, encouraged me to keep going when I wanted to quit, and that support made a lasting impact. That experience shifted my mindset and gave me the confidence to face challenges in other areas of my life, too. So having an opportunity to be that kind of support for someone else is really meaningful to me.
