Today we’d like to introduce you to Lubens Ervil.
Hi Lubens, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up a black boy in Palm Beach, FL the assumption was that the only way to make it out of the city was to either play ball or make music. 9 times out of 10 if you weren’t doing either one of those things, you would end up on the streets either selling dope or involved in gang violence. Luckily I was blessed with an amazing family that encouraged me to play football so I didn’t have to get caught up in the street life. In high school, I think that’s where I really fell in love with fashion and luxury streetwear. Although growing up, I didn’t have the funds to buy anything on these websites, it didn’t stop me from looking. Since I couldn’t afford to buy any designer clothing, I started to design my own. In high school, I took a class to learn how photoshop works in order to create my own designs. I would even stay after class to learn how to print my designs on leftover T-shirts the teacher wasn’t using. At the time, nobody in my city was doing anything like this and I didn’t want people to think I was soft for it. So naturally, I just kept playing football and ended up receiving a scholarship to Jacksonville University, where I would stay for a year and eventually transferred to USF to play for the Bulls.
Shortly after my transition, I entered into what was the possibly the hardest time in my life after finding out I would have to take a year off of football due NCAA eligibility rules. After receiving the news, I honestly didn’t know what else I wanted to do with my life. So during this time, I started hustling for funds in order to buy all the designer clothing I wanted when I was younger. I had shoes and clothes from every major designer like Balenciaga, Prada, Off-White, Etc. Finally, the year was up and I was now eligible to play football. The day before my first practice with the team the NBA was shut down due to Covid-19 and because of this, our spring season was canceled. Once again, I felt like I hit a low point in my life but I didn’t show it. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in life, but I knew I didn’t want to keep hustling. All I knew was football. This time alone allowed me to realize how much I truly loved fashion and not just the clothing side but also the music side. I feel that the two go hand and hand which was something I wanted to implement into my brand. Fast forward November 28th, 2020, the day of my birthday, after building LEGAXY from the ground up I launched my first collection titled “I Trust Nobody” inspired by trust issues that most young people suffer with today. I dropped the collection as if I was a rapper and had a collection cover that looked similar to a rap album cover and included the names of all the pieces I have available. We are almost sold out and we are getting ready to launch our newest collection. All I can say is that wouldn’t be here if not for the Most High’s favor.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Really the biggest struggle was getting to the initial launch point for the business. Going through multiple vendors while also having to balance out school and football was very challenging as well. After 6:00am football practice, I would have no time to rest during the day because I had either school work to do or needed to work on new clothing designs. After the launch things have been pretty smooth. I feel like everything is just coming to me naturally now.
As you know, we’re big fans of Legaxy Apparel. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Legaxy Apparel is a luxury Streetwear brand that encompasses the fashion sense from hip-hop artists, professional athletes, and other pop culture influencers. Legaxy’s high-end custom trendsetting looks offer top-notch designs, material, and overall customer satisfaction. What sets Legaxy apart from other clothing brands is the unique approach the company takes to the fashion industry. I promote, drop collections, designs, and create as if I am a rap artist myself. When dropping the “I Trust Nobody” collection, it was perceived more like a rap album than a clothing collection. Being close friends with so many artists while growing up, I naturally wanted to implement this into my business. I feel fashion and music go hand in hand so Legaxy brings the two together and creates art. My proudest moment with my business so far is definitely dropping the “I Trust Nobody” collection. I worked so hard to get to this point and feel that God has been guiding me in this direction since I was young. I want our customers to know when buying Legaxy you will receive your items in very timely manor due to our fast worldwide shipping services and that you will not be disappointed in the high fashion outfits you buy.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice to young entrepreneurs or individuals looking to start their own business is to focus on yourself and try not to worry about what the next person is doing. I see in today’s society people tend to get discouraged because they see someone else doing well and wonder why it is not working for them. What worked for one person may not work for everyone so you just need to find what best fits you. I suggest reading a lot of books, watching videos, and really studying your craft. Something I like to do is put myself in the customer’s shoes. I know what high fashion looks like and feels like so if I know, I wouldn’t buy it or that the quality doesn’t look or feel good why would I sell it? Sometimes you just need to be real with yourself and ask am I really giving 100%.
