Hidden Gems: Meet Yesenia Castro of Pink & Boujee LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yesenia Castro.

Hi Yesenia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Pink & Boujee is a Latina Owned & Operated restaurant and cafe that started as a small food cart in the Fashion District in DTLA and later blossomed into a brick and mortar in my community of Boyle Heights. It was born out of an idea to combine all my passions into one and create an all pink dining experience.
while showcasing my moms recipes and our mexican culture by adding a pink twist to our authentic mexican cuisine.
We use no artificial colors we wanted to create beautiful dishes but also making sure we use the right ingredients.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The restaurant industry is one of the hardest. with so much happening in our city like covid, fires, & now an attack on our communities it has definitely been hard to navigate that but our community motivates us daily and inspires us in knowing we are on the right path. Even is it’s hard at times.

As you know, we’re big fans of Pink & Boujee LA. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Pink & Boujee LA is more than just a restaurant, it’s a story of how dreams can come true. At a young age I was always very creative and took risks. There’s no better feeling than to create something from the ground up in your own community with your loved ones by your side. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with amazing brands, & share our story with the world though press. I always say we are more than just a pretty “aesthetic” place & I feel like our customers feel that as well. I’ve built relationships with our customers and day one supporters.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I think no matter what nothing really prepares you for starting a business. There’s no book to follow. Coming from a virgo like myself that plans absolutely everything haha. I think that’s the beauty of it. You learn and grow. I would say my best advice is to not be afraid of failure and to always be open to continuing to learn and not think we know it all.
