Today we’d like to introduce you to Wittie Hughes.
Hi Wittie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Music has been a passion of mine for as long as I could remember. Since I was able to walk & talk, I have drawn to creating and performing. I am originally from San Francisco, CA. I started writing songs at a young age and from their songs turned to poems which eventually turned into rapping. Throughout my life music and acting have been my passion and fulfillment. In 2018, I had finally dropped my first single “Mama Always” on all Major platforms. From a series of acting classes, studio sessions, competitions, music conventions I wanted to expand my possibilities with my talents so I decided to work on my networking base and move to Los Angeles, CA. In March 2019 I did just that, I was able to maximize e on so much more I felt like living the Hollywood lifestyle and being right where stars are born daily. I immediately got to work and started building connections in music, I connected with a dope engineer & producer and created a 6 song project which 3 of which have also been released on all platforms. While chasing my dreams things of course got costly and I had to find a means of income to balance life and my passion. I landed an amazing opportunity in the Cannabis industry as GM and then the pandemic started. Everything slowly started coming to a halt as the world prepared to shut down. As an artist, the majority of things had now been paused due to restrictions, as for my employment we were gratefully deemed essential and I was able to maintain livelihood during the pandemic. As for many of us, life changed drastically and we made constant adjustments to a normalized routine as we prepared for what was ahead.
In 2021, I lost my father and aunt barely a month apart 2 siblings and pillars in our family which impacted us unexpectedly. The same month I was informed my leading role in an independent film called “Red Carpet” had just been released and I knew then I needed to somehow use my grief as fuel. I began planning my next release, video treatment visuals and excessive studio time. I wanted to remain focused and not lose any of my drives to not have time to focus on my pain. Not long after I found out, I was expecting and I knew my daddy was sending me a reason to slow down and appreciate life more. I took a leave from my job to work and prepare for my introduction into mommyhood. I wanted to be a striving rapper mom and create a life where I didn’t have to choose between the two. I have been blessed to be able to do both, though during my pregnancy I thrived performing, competing, and creating content and music. Fast forward, my daughter turned one year old this month and she is my biggest gift and inspiration. She is so musically inclined already and makes my drive for artistry a breeze to juggle. We travel all over the world already pursuing mommies dreams to build for her future. It’s a life I couldn’t have foreseen for myself, I am beyond thankful!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I definitely can’t say that it’s been a smooth road because challenges will always pop up in life when you least expect it. As an Artist, one of the hardest things are staying consistent and having a budget allocated to your artistry. It’s easy to create music, anyone can make a song, the challenge is getting the song out and listened to, being able to organically create a fan base. Confidence and originality play a factor as well, it’s easy to chase after similar sounds and mimic other artists, it’s not as easy to develop something unheard-of or unfamiliar. I often struggled with this as well, I’m still trying to develop a sound for myself. I’ve also come across struggles of finding trustworthy people to work within this industry. Genuine people who don’t have motives, I personally have experienced situations where I never received work I fully paid for, or engineers have kept music files of mine, lost files or footage from music videos. Overall I have many more appreciation stories than struggle because I’ve come a long way in my music and I’ve yet to let anything consume more of me than it deserves. I know every new day is a new opportunity to do better than yesterday. I lead with that always!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Music has been my motivation since a youth, it has helped me identify triggers in my life early on and has been a big comfort in identifying with myself as I got older. Music as a mentor transcends and relates, heals and motivates. The vision of Witty’s World Entertainment is to create a vast impact on the lives of others. Evolved in 2020 through a vision to create a blueprint on how to be a successful independent artist.
Witty’s world entertainments focus is to create a direct support to independent artists alongside their journey in music, Cultivating the future next big talent universally with teaching the strategies of owning and maintaining rights to their masters and catalog independently,
We offer artist development though unique approaches tailored to complement the individual growth and identity of the artist. Production engineering, writing sessions, brand building, Content creation, distribution, publishing set up and more.
In the future, I have aspirations of working with youth and creating a program that is safe haven for them to come to discover learn explore create in a world of music. Somewhere they can learn music production/engineering, the fundamentals of writing music, the history of music, etc.
What makes me most proud is my ability as an artist to really relate to the journey and challenges that come along. Understanding the need for stronger resources for more artists to thrive in their crafts.
Being an independent artist myself I understand the struggle that can come from chasing a dream without the proper funding available to you. WWE is dedicated to teaching and assisting independent artists with applying accessing funding to support their careers. There is money available out there that just waiting for you to maximize on it !!!
I am excited for what 2023 brings for WWE and all that’s to come.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I come from a family of 9 and I am the 2nd youngest so growing up I was the baby of the bunch. I was treated with a lot of delicacies for a while. Growing up In San Francisco I was fortunate to come from such a diverse city. I went to a Chinese immersion school where I learned Cantonese and Mandarin from k-8 and even in high school. Till this day I am still bilingual and use my language as often as possible. I even rap in Cantonese from time to time. The experience, education and culture is a big piece of my childhood. I’ve always had a big personality person very Witty, very funny, outgoing, loud entertaining. I loved to be the center of attention. I loved being dressed up and putting on a show for whoever would give me the time and watch me. I loved music and acting-based things, my sisters, cousins and I always had our own girl group going. We would be choreographing whole dance sets, songs looking for concert shows lil bit of everything!
We use to love rollerblading too, it’s crazy how if today I choose some skates you would say I choose violence!
