Hi Varuni, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi there, I’m Varuni Palacios—founder of Studio Varuni in Los Angeles, California-licensed esthetician, Hydrafacial Master Esthetician and Face Reality Certified Acne Expert. I specialize in high-touch x high-tech facial treatments with sculpting, clearing and hydrating goals top of mind.

By the time I gathered the guts to pursue my passion for skincare as a facialist, I was 15 years into my first career. For these years, I led top performing marketing teams through the journey of building high growth brands——at NBC Entertainment, goop, Miss Grass and MasterClass.

And now, in my second life, I work 1:1 in the treatment room where I belong, helping you to achieve the best skin of your life and feel your best, yet. In other words, I’m on a mission to elevate the way you care for your skin and feel about yourself.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No adventure comes with a smooth road. Some of my biggest struggles have become my greatest moments of insight. Some of the things I’ve learned along the way:

Instant gratification is a lie. We all want instant success – overnight results, and it isn’t possible. Success come from consistent execution and improvement in that execution day after day for years on end. Success is a long game. You will definitely struggle until you realize it.

There is no such thing as failure. There is success and there’s learning. The only way you fail is if you give up.

If you want a sure way to struggle, pursue perfection. To be successful in anything, we should get comfortable with taking messy action in pursuit of progress. Over time, the reps you put in will help you to be successful, but perfection is not a real thing.

To be successful in any business, you have to master your mindset. No matter what—even if you have an MBA, if you’re an operational powerhouse, if you don’t have a good head on your shoulders to affirm your strengths, and be your biggest hypewoman, you’ll struggle.

Until you truly know what you want to do and have the resources to do it, just work on yourself. Take care of yourself with healthy habits like sleeping well, eating well, speaking to yourself with kindness and empathy and only surrounding yourself by people who are rooting for you. Eventually, everything gets figured out.

Don’t compete. Don’t compare. Your whole life will change the moment you own who you are, stop trying to be someone else, and just do you. Own who you are, watch your life change for the better.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I am relentless about the things I want for myself and my family in life. I see every “no” as the first step towards a yes, and view every closed door with the potential to be opened—most of the time. I spent 15 years in my career as an executive marketing leader honing my abilities to think strategically, create content based on core human desire, and pivot quickly as needed. I’ve applied my experiences to my second life in my studio, never losing sight of who I am and what makes me most unique. It’s all I have.
