Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Herrera.
Hi Vanessa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am 28 years old, I began my passion for make-up seven years ago and it was the best thing I could ever do. When I started, I was actually married for five years and soon after that I divorced and became a single mother which was not easy at all this became more of a motivation for me to be the very best mother that I could for my son so that I could provide for him a better life there was definitely a lot of obstacles but I never gave up my dream of being my own boss and pursuing my dream job, being in the Makeup industry really opened up a lot of doors for me I started to do research on how to grow a business and create a career where I could be my own CEO. In 2019, I opened up Makeup seminars in different locations all over the inland empire and I was very successful fast forward to 2022 I am now a pro make-up artist-educator at a beauty Academy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been an easy journey whatsoever I failed many times but I always got back up with the grace of God who has always had my back no matter what. Being a single mother you have to look out for not only your child but for yourself as well and that alone can be a lot for someone. My son has always been my inspiration and All the single mothers as well I do it for them to show them that just because we are single mothers doesn’t mean that we can’t be successful. I like to inspire all the single moms and teach them that they are stronger than they think and they can accomplish anything in life that they set their mind to.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business is Beautiesbyv which is pretty self-explanatory I paint faces for a living and I absolutely love it, it’s something that I take pride in. I specialize in glam makeup overs for special events such as weddings and Quinceañeras something that sets me apart from others is that I have a passion and you can truly see it when you see my work. What says me apart from other brands is the hard work that has been put into the business it was not handed to me it was something that was built with a lot of love and passion. We are growing we have plans to open up our very own studio and become an academy where anyone and everyone can come and learn the best makeup application techniques we will teach you everything you need to know about make-up and how to become your own CEO.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
We don’t have a podcast yet but that is in the works for us in the future the only book that I read is the Bible and that is all I need my wisdom definitely has come from this book. I highly recommend everyone to pick up a Bible on the way home and grow their spiritual life with our Lord and savior.
