Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Schachtschneider.
Hi Steve, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My father and great-grandmother spent much time with me in the woods as early as I can remember. I learned names of edible berries, fruits, plants, and mushrooms during these outings. As I grew, I naturally gravitated towards exploring outside as often as possible. The great outdoors is the one place I can experience child-like wonder over and over and over again. As a business, I met a person who was very similar to me in his love for nature. We began to hike and forage together, him prompting me, almost against my will, to offer some of nature’s bounty to others as a way to carry the goodness of the forest to those unable to come to it. It is pure joy which allows me to be of some small service of this nature. I am awed by the opportunity.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This journey continues to be challenging. I have limitations involving technology, which make simple housekeeping a chore, marketing overwhelming. I have used companies which specialize in these areas, yet to find a good fit for me.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in offering wild foraged medicinal and gourmet culinary mushroom and plant products from deep within the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina. Seasonal fresh, dried, ground, and double-extracted tinctures. All my products are harvested from their natural environment, which makes them organic.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My father and I stumbling into a flush of Morel mushrooms under an old apple tree. His excitement I remember to this day!
