Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Pigeon.
Hi Sarah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
All my life, I loved helping people and animals. When I was a kid, I thought I wanted to be a vet, but as I grew up, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. I had started bartending while getting my undergrad and continued after because I loved it, although I knew it wasn’t what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I wanted to hone in on something I could see myself doing for a while, so I started looking into different graduate school programs, all having the central focus of helping. I looked into personal training programs, veterinary programs, environmental biology programs, and many others, but nothing really stood out to me. Then one day a friend of mine mentioned that she was going to get acupuncture and it was like something hit me. I had never even tried it, but I felt like it was something that I would love doing.
So, I started looking into acupuncture programs, and it just so happened that there was an acupuncture school in San Diego. After I graduated, I opened my practice and have been finding what works for my patients and me ever since. Starting out is tough, so I was lucky enough to continue bartending while I built my practice. Now I have a full practice and treat a full range of conditions, from back pain to allergies to face wrinkles. I love what I do because I get to help a variety of people with all different conditions and I get to incorporate not only Chinese medicine but also nature, fitness, nutrition, spirituality, and anything else my patients need into my practice. I do acupuncture, but I also prescribe Chinese herbs, use crystals, recommend supplements, look at lab work and X-rays, do meditations, give nutritional advice and exercise recommendations, and whatever else my patients need to feel their best. I never get bored and everyday is a challenge. I love seeing my patients feel better and make changes to continue feeling great. I get to help people feel great and that makes me feel great!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Haha, “smooth” is not the word I would use to describe it, although looking back, it could’ve been much worse. There were times when I thought I’d never get it up and running. There were times when I thought I’d bartend for the rest of my life. There were times when I thought I’d never have more than five patients a week. Even now, there are weeks when there are a bunch of cancellations or it’s slower, that I think “Uh oh,” but for the most part it’s pretty great. People aren’t perfect and things happen, so I always remember that the plan is fluid and I just have to be open to changes. Starting out, I was blessed to have a lot of friends in similar situations that I could turn to for advice and I just never gave up. I knew this is what I am supposed to do, so I kept thinking eventually it would all work out, and it has.
As you know, we’re big fans of Wave Health and Wellness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I share an office with my fiance, who also is an acupuncturist. We both have been athletes for a long time, so we specialize in sports injury, pain management and peak performance and I also do cosmetic and facial acupuncture. I feel grateful that I am able to help people accomplish wellness goals and feel great. I am very proud to own my own business and for the progress and success I’ve made with it, but what I am most proud of is writing and publishing my book, “Feel Awesome Everyday.” My goal is to help as many people as possible feel as good as they possibly can and this is a way I can reach even more.
How do you think about happiness?
Haha, how much time do you have? My friend told me one time, “I think you’re my happiest friend. Every time I talk to you, you say ‘Everything is great!'” So, the answer to that is a lot makes me happy. On a daily basis, I get to help people feel awesome. I run and walk my dogs in a beautiful city that I love and on the weekends, I volunteer at an animal shelter and then I get to relax and chill. Helping people makes me happy. Working out makes me happy. Finishing a run when you’re all salty and sweaty and your body just feels so alive makes me happy. Puppies make me happy. Sitting outside on the deck watching the sunset with a glass of wine makes me happy. Hearing success stories of other entrepreneurs makes me happy and to see people thrive.
