Hidden Gems: Meet Rebecca Marcus of RM Psychotherapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Marcus

Hi Rebecca, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always been interested in people and how they work. I was told at a young age that I was emotionally mature and empathic. I studied psychology as an undergrad and also became certified as a Reiki 3 healer. I studied and presented a senior thesis on the mind-body connection. I knew I wanted to take a holistic approach as a therapist as I headed into an MSW program at NYU following college graduation. I interned in addiction treatment my first year and loved that a holistic approach that incorporated spirituality was taken. I also began to understand ( even more than I already had) the impact of one’s family of origin, mental illness genetic predispositions, and the effect of trauma on development and how we form relationships as adults. I then studied at a psychoanalytic institute for my second year internship placement, where I learned even more about the importance of our relationships and how we could heal and be intentional with our lives as adults. I went on to work in addiction treatment as well as doing play therapy for a year in a clinic where I witnessed, even more, the various cycles of generational trauma and understood the importance of creating change and breaking the cycle. After this I spent time studying at a trauma and mental health training institute and then I continued to work as a group therapist treating addictions until later moving into the private practice realm. It took me some time to niche down into the dating and relationship realm, I believe it was after I had gone through my own journey of healing and meeting my husband…but looking back relationships have always been integral and important in my life and training and understanding as a therapist and human being. I now have a private practice in NYC where I help millennial and GenZ women tame their anxiety and find and keep real healthy love! I offer individual and group therapy focused mainly on this as well as providing mindfulness lectures for continuing education for other mental health professionals.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t believe life is ever a smooth road, but I have learned to ask for help, embrace my humanness and ongoing evolution of growth, and find a niche that I am passionate about and don’t feel burnt out in. I struggled with my own professional burnout, my struggles with dating, love, relationships, and anxiety, but going through these things and learning how to manage and view them is really the why behind what I do!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a holistic psychotherapist speaker and dating and relationship expert. I have a private practice in NYC and speak for continuing education lectures for other mental health professionals. I blend a practical and values-based approach with an integrative trauma-informed, attachment-based somatic practice. I offer group and individual therapy to millennial and GenZ women. I have a new associate who will also be offering groups on relationships and life transitions in the fall. I am launching some self paced audio courses and worksheets in the fall as well.
