Hidden Gems: Meet Megan LeCornu of Embrace Your Smile Orthodontics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan LeCornu.

Hi Megan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I told my mom I wanted to be a dentist by six years old… somehow it stuck. I went to Harvard School of Dental Medicine for dental school and Received my specialty training from the prestigious University of North Carolina Dental School. I have multiple articles published in peer-reviewed journals, but my passion is patient care. I have two practices. I=One in Newhall, CA and the other in Valencia, CA. I had a dream at six and I am so blessed that dream has come true.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing good in life comes easy. This is true for becoming an orthodontist. Financially, I supported myself through my entire journey. I relied on student loans, grants, and scholarships to fund my education. I was making approximately $1.88/ hours when you consider my stipend for my residency training. When I graduated, I took out more loans to buy my practice. It was scary being a young doctor and having so much debt. But I had so much passion for my career and my dreams were big. I knew I would not fail because of my passion.

We’ve been impressed with Embrace Your Smile Orthodontics, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. This means that I specialize in moving teeth to provide the ideal function of the bite (occlusion), the temporomandibular joints, and the dentition and also enhance the esthetics of the smile and facial structures. We can modify the growth of the jaws and dentition in young children to enhance the facial structures and provide the ideal balance and function of the jaws.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Finding a work-life balance is not easy but critical for happiness. As a healthcare provider and a businesswoman, it is easy to get caught up in the chaos that is work. Making sure there is time for yourself is critical because you can’t be a great doctor or a good businesswoman, or an exceptional leader unless you make time for yourself.
