Hidden Gems: Meet Maria Micheo of Micheo Boxing & Imparables

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Micheo.

Hi Maria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Since I was a little girl, sports have been a big part of my life. My dad wasn’t an athlete himself, but he was the one who encouraged me to start martial arts. He signed me up, along with my sisters, at a dojo right across from our house. That’s where I discovered my strength, discipline, and a passion that would shape my future.

Over time, I became a national athlete for Guatemala, proudly representing my country in international competitions. After retiring from karate, I found a new challenge in boxing. I started from scratch, fell in love with the sport, and pushed myself to the limit — eventually becoming Guatemala’s first professional female boxer.

My journey has been full of battles, both in and out of the ring. But every setback made me stronger. I founded Micheo Boxing, a training academy that transforms lives through fitness, boxing, and healthy habits. Together with my wife, we also created La Energía, a healthy café, and launched Imparables, our wellness app for Latina women looking to transform their bodies, minds, and energy.

My story is one of grit, love, resilience, and purpose. I’m still training, dreaming, and helping others awaken their best version. Because it doesn’t matter where you come from — what matters is how hard you’re willing to fight for where you want to go.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy journey.
Behind every achievement, there’s a story of struggle, sacrifice, and tough moments that shaped who I am.

I lost my mom when I was very young. I was raised with love by my aunt, but growing up without my mother left a deep impact it made me stronger, but also filled me with insecurities. I also went through painful experiences like childhood abuse, which marked me deeply. Over time, I chose to turn that pain into strength.

In sports, the road wasn’t smooth either. I had to fight for my place in a male-dominated world, break stereotypes, face criticism, and learn how to rise after every fall. As a professional boxer in Guatemala, there was no clear path
I had to create my own, often without support, without resources, and full of doubts.

Later, I faced the challenge of migration starting over in a new country, adapting to a different culture, training harder than ever, and keeping my passion alive despite uncertainty.

But every struggle prepared me for who I am today. Nothing was handed to me everything was earned through discipline, effort, and deep faith. And that’s why I’m so committed to inspiring others to believe that it’s possible, even when everything seems to be against you.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

What does success mean to you?
To me, success isn’t measured by medals, titles, or followers. It’s measured by impact, purpose, and growth.

Success is being able to look back and see how much you’ve grown, how many obstacles you’ve overcome, and how many lives you’ve inspired along the way. It’s waking up each day with energy, with faith, and with the conviction that you’re building something bigger than yourself.

It’s achieving your goals without losing your essence. It’s living in alignment with what you think, feel, and do. It’s watching your team, your students, and your community grow with you. And it’s being able to share that journey with the people you love, knowing you didn’t have to step on anyone to get there.

My definition of success is simple: living with purpose, leaving a mark, and never stopping the growth.
